Is it possible to fit the air to oil coolers on cars that already have water to oil coolers, Such as RS turbos?

I know you can fit them if you don't have the standard coolers fitted/remove them, But is it possible to fit one and keep the standard cooler.

Thus having both water and air coolers?

 

Why would you want to? If you fit a stat plate the original is not needed.

 

thats what i was asking. forum search doesn't help on here. So Looking to see what or how Mocal coolers are fitted to RS turbos. So the standard cooler needs removing and the hoses need re-routing. Then the air to oil cooler plate fits onto the block and the filter then fits to that.

 

Yep. Join the existing water hoses together, fit a stat plate and a cooler, BINGO! Go for a setrab cooler too.

 

That's what I had fitted on a high power cvh lump I bought, previously owned by Marc K and still going strong today

So air to oil cooling more effective than water to oil cooling?

 

Depending on the size of the air cooler or the heat exchanger each will have a limit to how much heat it can dissapaite or transfer.
I prefer and have a mocal air oil cooler on my cossie as to my mind it's better suited than the modine for my mildly tuned engine.
I am no expert, just a internet keyboard basher and you should seek expert advice for your specific application.

 

I’ve removed my factory water oil cooler with a thermostatic sandwich plate and setrab oil cooler and it’s kept my oil temps rock steady when giving the beans, had seen temps of nearly 110*C before I had it fitted, now it’s 90*C pretty much all the time.
