Default Induction noise but no induction kit!

Any ideas on this one?

MK3 2.5 V6 Mondeo (same engine as the ST24, Probe, Cougar 2.5 V6)

With the bonnet open today to check over the usual's I thought I would start her up and listen to the engine.....I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment

I could hear a very faint induction kind of noise. You know when you have an induction kit and press the accelerator hard it makes a kind of suction noise, well my car is making this noise but very very faint. A blip of the throttle and it gets a bit louder for all of 1 second, just like an induction kit.....But I dont have an induction kit!

It sounds like its coming from the upper inlet manifold. Is there anyway to test for leaks or whatever this noise could be?

Sounds like an air leak. It's most probably a split breather or vacuum hose. Check every single hose you can find, with the age of a mk3 Mondeo the hoses can get soft and split.

I suspect it is the secondaries opening up when you get to about 3.5k rpm.
At this point the car starts running though all 12 inlets ports and not just 6.

The Probe ran the Mazda derived V6 engine not the Duratec V6.

Never knew that about the Probe using the Mazda MX6 engine. Is the Mazda/Probe engine better than the Duratec V6?

The probe was just a mazda lol. Totaly different engines.

Has the bottom of the air box had holes drilled in. Mine had. Ive got a cone filter on mine. It does sound good,i dont think there is any power gains though.

Thanks Glenn!

I have a performance panel filter. Interesting you say about the airbox as put my ear to it earlier whilst girlfriend revved the car and it is defiantly coming from there.....Yet I could have bet money it was coming from somewhere else in the engine!

What do you think to your 2.5 V6 mate? I love mine, costs a lot in petrol though. Was thinking about getting something cheaper to run since being signed off work due to my legs, but I dont think I would enjoy a smaller engine with an auto box which I need at the moment. Also mine is the Ghia X and has every creature comfort and parts are so easy to come by second hand for cheap for the MK3, so going to keep her!
