Default Ford fiesta 1.4 tdci engine warning light p0404 Help! Please!

Hi guys,

I'm hoping for some advice with this problem, I'm a rookie DIY mechanic at best and really don't have the means to go to a garage.

I've bought a second hand fiesta and the second or third time Ive driven it up the engine warning light has come on.

I have plugged in the reader and it's showing the fault code p0404- exhaust gas recirculation control circuit range/performance.

After searching the net, apparently it's normally the egr. I have removed it and cleaned it, then removed the code but it has returned 😒.

I'm thinking the best thing to do now is replace the sensor...or maybe even blank off the egr...has anyone had this issue before or can offer me any advice?

Thanks in advance for any help or attempt to help!

Tom.

I think if you blank off the egr the engine light will just stay on. I would be looking at replacing the egr valve with a new one.
