Shifter is different - i was doing similar conversion but the rs cables i had were knackered so i went with standard shifter and box (with lsd) - think RS shifter thingy on the actual gbox is also different - Leigh will know

I've got a focus rs gearbox in my mk4 escort and I have used a shifter and cables from a 2003 1.8tdci focus, haven't used the car yet though, but initially I can select all the gears bar reverse. No oil in the box yet and engine isn't ready to run for a bit yet.

reverse could be a issue lol.i think i heard before that the shifter tower is differnet in the rs.it might be worth finding one and maybe weld a bit of a focus floor into position

when do you hope to be up and running mate?

November with a bit of luck, that said my daughter is due to be born that month so might not have time for the car. Car is currently away for custom exhaust manifold, exhaust and boost pipes.

The focus rs box and custom engine mounts altered the angle of the engine which meant the previous turbo/manifold set up ended up with the turbo 5mm from the radiator.

The reverse gear should engage easily once the oil is in there and the engine is running so that everything is turning, after all if I can get 1st and 5th etc the gate must be setup somewhere near.

i am ordering the 3 from crazy cage so hopefully all should be good .my manifold puts the turbo over the gearbox.
it would be great if the tdci one would work .i must do some investigating on part numbers to see if they are same/similar.
you may forget about the car once the litte un comes along lol

I really cant see it not working I looked at loads of pictures of mtx gearboxes from transit connect and focus etc, I found out which boxes had the same shift tower as my frs box, then luckily a mate was breaking a suitable car so I could go and check the parts looked correct, I then removed the lot and he let me have them all including the bracket on the gearbox for a whopping Ł20

My turbo is going over the gearbox somewhere. Its a question of where the down pipe is going to go yet, I'm not sure how well a focus rs plastic inlet will like the exhaust running past it so I think it is gonna exit from the front of the engine then under it.

Money really, if I was changing inlet it would be one of crazycages. If I change inlet it will need a load of mapping again so inlet change could end up costing well over a grand.

As far as I was aware you can use normal Focus cables and shifter on the RS box, but you can't mix and match. So it must either be RS shifter and cables or normal focus shifter and cables. I seem to remember having standard cables originally when I was doing the build in the KA, and they simply wouldn't fit. The fittings were different or something. RS cables sourced and all fitted together nicely.

As said above you need to use the rs shifter and cables or a a standard focus shifter and cables from an mtx car apparently the shift is shorter using the rs kit though

Venhill will make you new cables if you need them. I'm having longer ones made to move the shifter further back.
