Wink Engine swap for Ford Mondeo mk3

Hello
Im looking for a fast engine for my ford mondeo mk3 from 2004. I dont know what fits and works tho. I would like to get about 300 bhp. Got any ideas what would fit? I think i will add a turbo too. Just want a fun sleeper.

The MK3 Mondeo was available with the Duratec 2.0 as fitted to the Fiesta ST.

I would look to see what they are doing to get that sort of power.

If it was me I would be looking at a 2.5 i4 Duractec with forced induction.

So the mk3 came with,

1.8 Duratec i4
2.0 Duratec i4
2.5 Duratec v6
3.0 Duratec v6

The 2.0 is the same engine as the st150 but it's only 5bhp up on the Mondeo so not worth the bother. The St150 uses the Mazda ecu. Both will do 200 by freeing up the induction and exhaust but that's not going to feel quick in a Mondeo.

The Mazda 3+6 MPs is a 2.3 stroked and turbocharged version of the 2.0 and should bolt in and give you the power you want but they are rare and expensive over here.

The 3.0 v6 from the st220 is erm 220bhp ish but it feels slow compared with a boosted car with the same power and 2/3 the weight. I.e. I have an st220 and a Megane 225 and you can't beat some boost.

The 3.0 v6 is what Nobble used with a couple of turbos to give around 400bhp. It just used 1mm shorter forged rods.

(If you find some let me know)

As above the Volvo/ Ford 5 pot fits between the legs of the mk4 so will likley do the same in a mk3 but check out engine manegment systems for a five potter before you start.

If you can fabricate stuf then pic any engine that makes the power your looking for and bung it in the hole. Don't forget a project thread with lots of photos.

What I want to know is, has any fitted a 2.0 Zetec ? ?

I'd save myself the hassle and buy something like an Impreza blobeye (03-05). Similar sized to a mk3 Mondeo and has a better platform.

the new mustang has the duratec 2.3 ecoboost, 300hp, and should bolt straight in, bit pricey still but a simpleish swap, even though the mustang is RWD, don't think it would be difficult to swap, maybe use some of the mazda 2.3 parts

From factory it's the 3.0 st220.

I think you would need very deep pockets for a complete and running cossie engine these days.

What's the going rate ? I've seen posts where just a good head is worth thousands.

unless money is no object, I would just get an st220 or something else all together

What about fitting a z20let out of a Vauxhall, cheap, transverse, easy enough to reach 300bhp, fit in the space available, either run standalone management or try and graft in the Vauxhall ecu into Ford chassis, can't see it being that hard to be fair.

There was a mondeo st220 on ebay a few months back that had been turbo charged. It needed finishing of. I think he wanted 5k for it

No wonder people walked away from ford cause they wanted a performance car. There was way better cars out there like the impreza and evo.

What did ford have to offer? A big heavy mk3 front wheel drive mondeo with a 3.0 ltr na engine.

The mondeo still outsold the Prezza 100:1 though, so as a money making exercise Ford knew exactly what they were doing.
