Default Sierra Engine???

I have a 1989 Sierra Sapphire running a 2.0 pinto engine, It has twin 40 carbs too, The engine is tired and burning oil, So as my winter project I am going to sort the engine but I am torn on which way to go.
I have a few options, I don't have the money to buy a cosworth engine so things will be done on a cheaper scale.
My options are as follows:

1. Stick with the 2.0 pinto engine and rebuild it and do head work and camshaft and keep the carbs.

2. Ive got a low compression Pinto engine so thought about doing a Turbo project.

3. Get a 2.0 Ztec engine and convert that to fit.

Im be doing all the work myself, I must admit I do like the carb noise but want a bit more power too.

Thanks

Sell the pintos for decent money and fit the 2.9 24 valve cosworth engine if you want cheap power.

Or

Buy a ST 170 engine which will fit on your type 9 box.

Or try and source a granada 2.3 16 valve and tranfer the lot over.

Or just a 2.0 black top zetec which is a step backwards from the duratec badged ST 170 zetec.

Could even use your carbs

How about getting a black top Zetec for Ł975 on ebay and a set of motor bike carbs with ignition mapping from Chester sports cars for Ł980 this will give you about 160 BHP with decent economy and performance.

Maybe not too much money for a new engine & BHP!

my money is on a BOA/BOB 24v as that is almost 200bhp/lbft out of the box and way less hassle than a zetec, or whatever

I started but never finished a Zetec Sierra. There are worse engines than a Zetec and they can be very very cheap. All down to your budget and how much you can add by fabricating parts.
