Default Replacement Crankshaft

Hi All,

I am in the process of rebuilding my YB and my crank is at 0.75mm under on the mains and 1.0mm under on the big ends. Due to it being virtually impossible to procure bearings in this size for the big ends I am assuming that it is time to look at sourcing another crank. So far I haven't had much luck tracking down a replacement second hand crank, but I am assuming due to age that cranks in good condition at std/std grind are very thin on the ground.

As such I have been looking at my options for replacement cranks. From my internet research it appears that the Arrow crank is a clear favorite, however in my case I cannot justify that sort money for my engine. I have also seen advertised alternatives from Farndon and IK Engineering, has anyone had experience with using these crankshafts in recent times?

I am not looking for an upgrade, I am simply looking for a replacement for the standard item. My new engine is planned to be a standard engine with 6 long studs and a wrc head gasket. With my ancillaries I am hoping to make 400 - 450hp.

Any advice / information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Damion

Use pinto bearings, lots of them about. Same sizes available. I have never used anything else and I have owned YBs for over 20 years.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the comments back. I must admit, this is what we did the last time we rebuilt the engine. When these bearings are not readily available for the YB engine it makes me think that there is a reason why? Where do these crankshafts usually fail?

Thanks,

Damion

In short Damion, these crankshaft don't fail. Well over engineered in their day, I run non-Cosworth tax bearings in the WRC, the crank should never touch the bearing.
