Silly question, but it's Saturday night

Can anyone tell me why the 3dr Focus weighed less later on in it's production ?

2002 - Kerb Weight 1283kg
2004 - Kerb Weight 1260kg

really depends of if those figures published were accurate, as the clutch was even bigger and heavier on later models but for 23kgs to vanish it does make you think, as I see no difference when I rip these cars apart

I know from working at Honda weight was saved by using less paint materials for example under the sound deadning under bonnets it was just electrocoat with colour around the edges....

Could also be down to cheaper materials as all companys try to keep costs down.

 

How much do they actually weigh? Has someone been to the scales?
