Default Sierra sapphire

Thought it was time to share my long term project. Sierra sapphire cosworth replica, when I was 14 everyday when I was going to school I would see the white Sierra sapphire lying rotting behind this house and after a few months me and my father went to the house and got the car for nothing as long as I didn't scrap it.

after a few hours we got it shifted on the trailer with sized back brakes. Anyway it was then time to take it the house and give it a good clean

Was then time for the major strip down and see what needed welding and repairing

The interior was stripped out and the floor and sills needed major welding, as I was young I wanted to learn and do all the work myself as I knew money would slow the project down a lot as only had a part time job and nothing else. Time to start the back panel.
The lower part of the back panel was shot so with low funds I decided to make my own

then time to rip out engine and remove passenger wing as was totally rotten and behind it needed cleaning
Engine on its way out

Wing removed and it was time to start cleaning it up

All cleaned up and painted in zinc primer

Was then stonechipped and sprayed in gloss white

Thought then it was time to put it on its side and start the under side
Mostly cleaned up and painted and welding was finished on the floorProject then went on hold for a couple of years as couldn't be assed and bought a new project for when I turned 17, bought a escort 1997 gti from a breakers yard that needed a new head gasket A head gasket was the least of its problems! The floor was rotten and the rear chassis legs! The fuel tank was shot and needed new sills

It then got almost a full resto and the under side cleaned stonechipped and painted

Engine was then rebuild and cleaned up
All finished and a new set of alloys put on! All was left was to pass my test!
After passing my test and being a bit older and more experienced I then put my hand to spraying and sprayed the back bumper

Then was time to go back on to the Sierra since I had more money and a license as you all know you want more power and something rear wheel drive!

Project back on and wasn't happy with some of my old welds so they can back out and redone
Rear axle off for clean up and new one
Needed a new sill on passenger side so that was done as well
Then finally the under side was finished after a lot of paint and then a thick coat of gloss white! Then to put car back down and start putting the back axle on and strip the front off New axle was bought, 4x4 LSD and then all was needed was to paint it and few new bits fitted

Rear axle finally together after a few pounds and a few parts from ford all that's left is to fit anti roll bar Time to start on the front
Needed a few bits to finish off the passenger side
New subframe and steering rack bought and painted
Few projects in the garage now! Bro's fiesta and fathers Anglia van and escort Mexico

Started to sand and prep bay
New wing fitted

New cosworth bumper

Wee test fit to see what looks like
Then car was turned around and other wing removed and started to clean up

My last wee purchase a 2.0 duratec, plan is to rebuild to a YD full cosworth pistons and everything .
Project then went back on hold as started a engineering sponsorship at sea and need to live away and got to sea for 4 months at a time but I have waited 6 years to get this far I'm sure I can wait a wee while longer!!

You may it look so easy! Well done for being white Sierra back from the dead

That GTi would have been a proper cool car to drive when you passed your test...I had a near identical one back in 2010 and I loved it.

Well been a while before I have posted any about the sierra but progress was made last time I was home before going away to sea again!

Inner wing all welded up

Sh*ty wee holes that got filled

New panel

All painted and stone chipped!

New wing fitted

Bay painted! About time!

Not a bad finish straight from the gun!

Few wee things been bought mostly original ford parts.

Front anti roll bar brackets been painted up

Well this is the new power house that will be going in her now! 2.0 pinto 205 block that I managed to safe from the skip!

New piper race cam!

Head off and sent away to get cam fitted and stage 3 valves and also few mods to the head it's self

So few bits of progress should be home again in the next few weeks, so plan is to finish rebuilding engine and maybe even throw a coat of paint on her!
