Question Noise from the back wheels when setting off?

I have a 2003 Ford Fiesta 1.4

Passed my test earlier this year and this is my first car.

For the most part it great but recently, its started making a twanging/clunking noise when i set off.

It sounds like its coming from the back wheels, towards the off side.

It only seems to do it the first time i set off in the day, say 9.00 in the morning, once ive set off once its fine the rest of the day.

any advice would be appreciated, i have no clue, past basic maintainance, im lost.

cheers!

Could be a sticky handbrake cable/handbrake mechanism

Thanks, i thought about that was not sure, is that a major issue? could it damage the car if left un-fixed?

It could be the adjusters on the rear shoes, I expect the shoes could be knackered and need replacing. I'd have the rear brakes stripped down for inspection!
