Default 5th gear not working

Hi people

I brought a rs turbo and 5th gear has never worked the last owner said it did work it's not even done 1000 miles that gearbox..... and I've got the paperwork that it has been reconditioned

.......

So stuck paperwork says it's been done can't be the gearbox can it

It's got a b&m quickshift on it its goes in the 5th position but got to hold it there but no drive and the the gearstick will ping back to the middle position when I take my hand of it feels like there's nothing there

Hm a bit lost at mo don't want to take it all a bits when it could be some think stupid sort of thing

Thanks all

Brought? you mean bought fella!

Anyway if the gearbox has been rebuild, the linkage would have been removed.

Get the car up on stands(do you have a ramp)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rhyas-Heav...IAAOSwqu9U9u~X

as above, they would be better. Undo the bolts that attach the linkage to the gearbox, and put the car into reverse, re-fit the linkage to the gearbox. You should be able to find 5th gear when driving(You can't test it while engine is off as it'll go into gear).

Drive the car and see how it feels, you may need to adjust the linkage until you get a perfect gear change.

Yes that'll happen. Its just a case of bad linkage alignment, When I fit my quickshift I had no 3rd or 5th gear. Its trial and error really.

The Ford linkages have a hole to put a pin through to lock the stick in position, I can't remember what gear.

But all I did was put the box in 4th, loosen the linkage, get a mate inside the car to hold the stick where I wanted 4th to be, then tighten the linkage.

It's very very likely to be just a linkage adjustment problem, but I've seen rebuilt gearboxes that were junk

Default NOISE

Hi, my rs1600i when on tickover the gearbox chatters a bit, with clutch in no noise as box is disconected.
The box and gears all work fine and smooth, bit of whine going down hill if no load is on it, mind its 33 years old and 85k.
So im just asking if other boxs chatter and is it anything to worry about, thanks.

As others have said it does sound like linkage alignment, so should be an easy fix!
