225/40/18 tyres.......... talk to me..... opinions
i am due to replace my tyres on my escort cosworth, power is only 380/380 but want a competent tyre. the car is fast road, and i am going on a sightseeing road trip to the ring in a month but dont do track days normally.
it is currently fitted with goodyear eagle f1s. they were ok.
i have used vredestein ultrac sessantas before but only on a 210bhp 350lb/ft mondeo st tdci. they were good, nice feel and control, quiet and predictable.
i am being advised against conti sport contact 5's
the heavy favourite is the michelin pilot sport 4 at the moment. anyone used or have any experiences with these tyres?
Just picked up a set of 225/40/18 PSS rubber for my ST250. Hopefully mounting next week and can let ya know what I think. Will be coming from Goodyear Eagle F1s (235/40/18).
I know it was fwd but the best tyre I found for my 300bhp focus st was the continental you mentioned. Lasted well and gripped the best in all conditions.
opted for the michelin pilot sport 4 tyre in the end,
cracking tyre, plenty ( more than im capable of finding limit of at nurburgring ) of dry grip and very good grip in the wet on motorways and a/b roads.
On my Focus ST (current & old one) & my old Mondeo ST TDCi, I used Uniroyal Rainsport 2, now the 3. All in 225/40/18 size. Good dry & really good wet grip and reasonable price. I'm sticking to them when I need some more aswell.

I put these rainsports on my focus st, found them lethal. Sidewall was so soft it lost all feeling through the steering and made the car feel really floaty. After having them put on i even pulled over to check the wheel nuts were tight! Took the car straight back to have some contis put on.
Old thread but I have just had a couple of tyres on my car, 225/40x18 Good Year F1 Supersports.
These are getting rave reviews and owners are saying that they're on a par if not better than Michelin PS4
They're brand new and need scrubbing in obviously, but even from a short drive home from the tyre shop, less TCS intervention accelerating in 3rd than before, which is promising. Dull 'looking' tyre though, all of them look the same these days?
Nice. So, how's their traction on wet pavement? Are the sidewalls stiff? I'm planning to order the Michelin PS4 on 4wheelonline next month, but I'm still open to other options.
