Default multi cylinder diesel engines.

Hi.

I'm looking out for a diesel estate car and quite fancy a larger capacity, multi cylinder motor..

Obvious choices are VAG V6 in either 2.5, 2.7 or 3.0 variants or the BMW straight 6, 325d, 330d or 530d or similar.

I'll be looking around 2005 / 2006 vintage.

330d BMW touring models seem to be a bit thin on the ground for good reason I guess but I've never had anything more than a 4 cylinder 2.0 diesel so looking for any experience of or insight into any of these motors, what to look out for, what to avoid and so on ?

cheers
Martyn

Default dervs

lots posts regarding them all on here
i am a fan of the m57 bmw lump-however in the later bmws-e60/61 e 90 series etc the cars themselves are complicated and can be troublesome
the earlier e39/w43 are not as hard work/complicated-nor is the pre 07 x5 2993cc facelift[my personal favourite]
however its hard to find a good early car as they are old now
the audi 3.0derv supposedly good-but audis themselves can be a pain as they age too
