What happens if you bridge/short out the main fuel pump wires in the relay plug?

That depends IMHO.

The car may not be starting for a multitude of reasons. If my tank is an original S1 fuel tank it is not baffled. Especially since I have changed to Cosworth brakes and stickier tyres I can stare the fuel pump at just under half a tank. If the car has been run towards empty a few times it would not help the fuel pump. With EFI the matter would be no different.
