What are peoples opinions on ReShelled Cossies?
As long as everything that should be Cosworth on the shell is Cosworth I wouldn't care.
But I know some people probably would?

Were there any major differences with the Cossie shell over any other Sierra in terms of rigidity. I know the RS2000s had the gussets for strength.


I would be interested in that and ideally the new shell would be from another cossie donor if so. Sadly the classic car world is obsessed with originality for the top money. Personally it would not be important to me unless I was paying absolute top money for something to be original and then to find it was not.

 

The shells were the same.

 

i believe they were ghia shells-whether they were physically any different-ie more air to front etc-well who knows?
as far as values for re-sale a resheller will always be just that to the pedantic

back down in the real world its all the same-but as values soar so do expectations i"m afraid
when it boils down to it they were a well modified version of a repmobile.

Is it a reshell using a brand new ford shell or a reshell using a 1.6 shell but with a cosworth vin tag and floor number or a 1.6 on the book but all bodywork,interior and engine?
If it's a reshell and it's put together well it's prob worth around the same as an original cosworth.
If it's a reshell using another car but the cosworth I.d it's basically a ringer so I'd avoid.
If it's a non cosworth used shell but has all the cosworth parts it's a replica and worth prib a 3rd of a genuine car.
The term reshell gets bandied about far too much,the shell is whatever it was on the logbook the day it was registered,not what somebody makes it into later for monetary gain.

 

I heard somewhere that 4x4 shell had reinforced front wings or somesuch noise. Otherwise technically a Sierra's a Sierra, although I wouldn't expect to pay more than half a cossie's price for a full replica, and in my mind unless it's a new shell from Ford specifically ordered for that car, it's a replica.

 

The 4x4 Cosworth shells indeed are reinforced. Mine has extra plates between the rear struts and the floor and I believe the front wings/turrets are also reinforced.

Yes the 4x4 has extra reinforcement plates fitted for sure but cant comment on the fronts

 

I built my car from a new shell (not an existing car with all the cossie bits transferred) and I would rather have a minty mint shell with zero rot in it than one that has had shitloads of welding done with new chassis legs, repairs to sills, floor sections and one that looks like a patchwork quilt underneath like a lot of cars that I know.

Some folk would rather have an original shell that's been repaired time and time again but for me, a nice solid car would take preference over an original patched up one.

 

No difference in 2wd drive shell, 4x4 minor differences, these cars are old and all have a past, I personally couldn't care less and would probably see it as a good thing.
The only important bit is the engine, the rest is Sierra and nothing particularly special.

I agree I'd take a minted shell anyday over an original cossie shell that is rotten, I've just convinced my mate to bin his 2wd rotten shell in favour of a minter than mint 93 k plate shell than has perfect sills and arches. Where as his cosworth shell needed 2x new wings and inner wings, back arches and inner arches, outer and inner sills, sun roof repaired, chassis legs, seat mounts and spare wheel well and above the rear lights. Just a tea bag tbh.

 

I'm the same,I'd take a mint shell over a rot box but I wouldn't buy a run of the mill sapphire as then it would only be whatever that shell was on the logbook,to retain the value of the car it needs to be a genuine cosworth shell.
