afternoon people
I'm after some advice,i fitted 4x4 hubs to my 3dr si I can fit new gas gold and some ap brakes.
But now my castor angle is way out
Do I have to fit 4x4 arb to bring castor angle back ??

Any help would be grateful

Are the 4x4 hubs the only part from the 4x4 that you used? And which way is the castor angle out, too high or too low?


The 4x4's have different geometry hubs, arb and crossmember. So I wouldn't advise to mix and match any 2wd and 4x4 parts. Although with only the 4x4 hubs I thought it might have been OK, but apparently not.

 

Hi Marc , I've the 4x4 hubs , changed also half the adjustable bottom arms to pinch bolt type to match hubs.still using 3dr arb
Castor angle of wheel is forward
Now to get 3degree of camber I've nearly would out whole of steering rod/track rod from track rod end
What is the minimum amount of thread that could be safely left in track rod end

I'm a bit confused. Earlier you were talking abou castor, now camber. But for both you don't use the track rod to adjust it. The track rod is only for adjusting the tracking. And are you really trying to set camber to -3 degrees??

Yes I have a little to much forward castor but I think it's ok

3 deg camber is about as much as you'd want for track use, it's to much for road though (adj TCAs used for adjustment).

Castor, as much as you can get on cossie the better.

 

If you want to run 3 degrees of camber on track but the track rod ends are not long enough you can use track rod ends from a Granada mk3, which are the same fitment but about 1.2 cm longer than the Sierra ones. As far as I'm aware the Granada mk3 track rod ends are also the same as the Sierra XR4x4 ones (also wider track).


Too much castor would only be a problem if the tyres touch the bumper. Not enough castor is indeed a problem.

 

Ok next question , when I raise and lower car from floor with jack as wheels hit floor it's as if the weight on arb is changing toe angle on wheels

That could well be. The tca and track rod should run parallel, bu since you use a 2wd crossmember with 4x4 hubs it could be that the distance between the tca and track rod is different at the crossmember than at the hub, causing bump steer.

 

Hi Marco spoke with some helpful chap at scs and he told me I need to change to the 4x4 arb
So I gonna give that a go see how I get on hopefully sorts problem

A 4x4 arb will only push the wheels to the front further, increasing the castor even more and also make the wheels touch the front bumper. For the bumpsteer it won't help either.

 

Your right marco it indeed push
the front wheels even further forward and I tried getting mk3 granada track rod ends and there the same as Sierra so I've ordered tie rods 20 mm longer and gonna refit the 2wd arb

Still if you have bumpsteer it will be because of the 4x4 hubs and the 2wd crossmember.

 

The front suspension is so hard (500lb springs) that there's not gonna be hardly any suspension travel and it's only for track use so I think I be ok with bump steer there's only 1 way to find out
