Recommend me a sporty diesel for under 3k. It can't be a mondeo st tdci btw, had my fingers burnt with one of those
newer shape leon fr tdi bound to be within budget or thereabouts 2006 car with higher miles maybe
or as others mentioned the skoda fabia vrs[better on fuel than the leon]
i"ve used both as runabouts and the leon is more modern/quicker but the fabia is better value, perhaps better fun too

i recently sold a 2002 Audi A3 1.9TDI Sport Quattro.
went well enough and would do 40mpg with its arse handed to it. that was about the only good thing about it, i personally didnt like it about 10 miles into the drive home, had it 18 months tho.

I'll agree on the e46 330d,
I've got Will Pedleys old 1, and i think its the best allrounder car i've ever owned
Over 200bhp, nearly 500nm of torque and does 45mpg local amd 55mpg on motorway
I keep thinking of getting rid of it but cant bring myself to part with it

Also got myself a Mk5 GT TDI SPORT and it's great. I paid more than Ł3k as it was the sport and had low miles but I'm sure you could get one around this money. Mine does 60+MPG on a run and still over 50 if I spank it all 250 miles to work.

2007 57 plate in dark blue.
Tidy condition showing 150k on clock but honestly looks like a 60k car
Had replacement engine fitted recently that had done 88k
New mot, 18" s-line alloys , 2 keys , folding mirrors, auto lights/wipers etc
On board computer, Bose sound system.
Ideal winter hack that does 50mpg easy
Ł3000 Ono

And this was a trip I did last Xmas with the average MPG. Hereford to Colchester, Colchester to London, London to Hereford with mixed motorway, A Road and city driving. The tank wasn't even full when I started, I put Ł50 in it from empty and that how much fuel I had left. I regularly do Hereford to Colchester which is a 190/225 mile trip depending on what route I take on Ł20 of derv and have enough left to cut about town all week.
The Sports seem to hold their money a lot better than the standard GT TDI's as well when it comes to re sale.

Muz I have had over 65mpg in mine on the motorway.
Regularly spanking it up the motorway still returns 42-45mpg and im not hanging about either. Mine is the DSG auto and its great but keep thinking of selling it as its not my cup of tea really - i want another e46 330d or to get my sierra back on the road as prefer rwd

ive got the 147 JTD Mjet, chipped its 180bhp (and thats the eco map, would go to nearly 200bhp)
6 speed and will do 60mpg according to dash on a motorway run at 65-70mph and 50+mpg around town
Polo gt tdi 130 6 speed, great little cars, seats are amazingly good on long journeys ( like recarro) much better handling than same age golfs. Seat Ibiza Fr tdi is similar but cheaper but does not have the nice seats and interior that you get on the polo ( my last one had heated seats, 6 disk in dash cd, xenons etc.
Check inside the engine bay fuse box, remove the multi plugs and check for corrosion. Done a few now where the pins on the fuse box module have broken due to corrosion (always seems to be one of the large multi pin plugs) I'm sure Peugeot must squirt a bit of salt water in there from the factory as there's a cover on the box and it can look like new in there lol. If it is that, you will need a new module (circa Ł180 from Peugeot). Last one I did had been to a 'garage' and they gave up because there was "so much wrong". Often the simple things if there's multiple electrical issues at once.

Great car for the money , I managed to get a manual and had nothing go wrong with it since owning it . I got it on 78k its now on 101k and get 500 miles to Ł75.00

I'd reccommend a fabia vrs, i own one and it has been rock solid for a couple of years now. at least 40mpg even when being an idiot and almost 60mpg on a run.
great little cars and quite good fun when chipped as mine is (well as fun as a 5dr diesel car can be...)
