I do think it is rich for the current market but they are all going one way and that is up, as said, where else are you going to get a 5k S1? Restored just aren't the same and if you have the funds then why not own the best?
I think Bonkers was selling off a lot of his collection.

congratulations to mr bonkers ,these are just one off cars that deserve the price tag imho

if average mileage 500s are worth that kind of cash well these are rarer and worth the same

Don't think it was bonkers that put it though.. could be wrong
Nobody has another car like it so it was always going to make huge money, they're in a class of their own though these particular cars.
Wouldn't be surprised to see some roaster on the RSOC asking for valuations to be reviewed now after today.
With banks not giving much interest on savings, you'll always find people will put their money into assets instead. What better time to put it into standard limited run RS cars most of which have messed with broken for parts or written off, can't see them losing money now.

Some beautiful cars sold there, that mallard saffie is the one I'd have. As already said though, you can't really use these cars as so rare with the low miles but nice to have all the same.
I would have guessed it was someone else that started it but he didn't take long to show up.
See a few names are now banned too, getting worse on there every day.
Some of the prices seemed quite strange compared to others but I suppose it's a buyers market ?
Thought the RS Capri would of gone for more and they said the RS500 made 20k less than they thought it would ?

I agree with you Glenn, the average Ford enthusiast is never going to be able to buy these type of cars. They are all really becoming museum exhibits as they will never get driven in case it de-values them.Who would have thought what were mass-produced everyday Fords have now become major investment toys for a very select few.

I can see it from the owners side, they wouldnt wanna drive them cause it will devalue the car but imo i think its a waste for a car to sit there and do nothing. There a bit like life size models, they need to be driven.
Think your missing the point mate I'm sure the new owner
Could of brought a lotus Carlton but a series 1 with 5k on the clock although not better is the more rarer car especially if it's gone to a collector

pointless to compare what 50k could have bought, if you love the S1 and want the best, and can afford it then why not, you wouldn't give to f*cks about some old porker if you hankered after an S1.
Plenty of 8-12k S1 out there for those wanting drivers, a 5k S1 is something that should remain a time warp car.
