Smile My Sierra Sapphire 2000e

Had been on the lookout for a clean sierra for a while here in Ireland but nothing was really catching my eye for the money over here - so I decided to broaden my search to across the water and luckily found exactly what I had been looking for.

It is a 1989 sierra sapphire 2000e finished in stratos silver over moonstone blue. The car had been owned by a member of the forum for a number of years until I bought the car and the attention and level of detail he put into the car shines through.

I was originally weary about going to England for a car based on just pictures but the amount of detailed pictures of all around and in below the car put my mind to a bit of ease as it had clearly been well looked after and maintained.

Being the 2000e it comes with the leather interior and air con as standard. The seats have been upgraded with heated elements from a Granada. The interior had been retrimmed and a new original roof lining put in as it had sagged. Has a cosworth steering wheel retrimmed with the seats.

It has a full cosworth back end including LSD and cosworth brakes all round. Also has cosworth skirts spoiler and lattice alloys.

Since I got the car iv removed the towbar changed the plates and added a powerflow backbox and tip which gives it a nice note. Added a set of ford mudflaps and got the diff tightened.

Have fitted a set of front focus coilovers and lowered the rear. Sitting too low at the back, and cant put the front down any more as the coilover ring would catch the tyre - have a set of spacers just have to fit them - plan to bring the front down slightly and raise the back to try and get it nice and level.

Have it away in the garage for the winter now - unsure whether to get a cossie bumper and bonnet or not, will see how it goes.

Few pictures of the car;

Cheers @GLenn_ , yeah its quite solid at the minute - im running on renault master shocks in the back, they are more suited for a track car as they are real stiff - probably change them when im sorting the suspension out

Always been a tidy car this one, but it's sitting far too low and looks ridiculous, running it like that will just fuck the underside.

Yeah first priority is to sort the height - would love to get a set of GAZ or AVO's for it over the winter

That is very nice Personally a vented bonnet would suit it as I always felt the bonnet looks big and bare without ?

Finally started looking near this. Got the bonnet and bumper off yesterday - have to get the 4x4 bonnet painted, still looking a cossie bumper for it too. Front spacers to go on and coilovers adjusted too.

Took the boot lining out and found two of these, were disconnected - seemed to match up with the speakers on the parcel shelf, connected them and now have great sound!

That's a nice looking Saff you've got mate. What do you mean about getting the diff tightened in your first post though?

Also were do you buy your plates? I've been wanting a set in that font for long enough

Cheers . I got shim plates put in to make it lock better - was a bit slack when you turned the cups.

I got them from a graphic place up the road - put them on all my cars makes a nice difference. They are called "Metro" plates - not sure if its a standard font. Think you can get them on ebay.

Sorry to be a bore but worth pointing out to Loggie that the plates are illegal for road use and could get you a fine and 3 points if Mr Plod is in a bad mood.

Anyone got a good way of sorting out a sagging back bumper? It isnt warped or that, just hanging down slightly across the back - would it be best to modify the rail that bolts to the boot floor?

Cracking car!

Any more info on the focus coilovers? Do they basically (apart from the spacer required) fit right on? Any specific model of focus?

Since my dampers are just old and tired but not leaking I was going to modify them to make them refillable, fill with heavier weight oil to "uprate" slightly and put on a set of basic lowering springs, but your way could be easier? Was it much grief to get them on and sort out the ride height issue?

Cheers @ ross_grp! Maybe see it in Donegal this weekend! lol

Cheers @rs007 - yeah its from a mk1 focus, just a basic one doesn't have to be RS or anything like that - Apart from having to stretch the hub slightly to get the bottom in for the bolt to go through they are a direct fit - used my sierra top mounts i think. Lowered the front and back in a couple of hours, and that includes a trip to get thicker bolts to allow the rear Renault Master shocks to fit without slapping about.

@YBJ unfortunately some of the local traffic enforcement officers would care to disagree, but i see nothing wrong with them too lol
