Does anyone know where I can get the sound deadening which is on the floor pans of mk3 and mk4 escorts? I can get hold of the soft adhesive padding but the stuff fitted to the escorts originally is like a hard matting.

Personally I'd get the softer stuff but of a known brand. I am planning to do this with my car. The car should also be far quieter as a result. I'm planning on using the Dodomat which has been well proven.

IMO, I would use Silent Coat 2mm on the floor and all areas you want to cover.

The hard matting you are referring to is a vinyl layer, commonly known as Mass Loaded Vinyl, this is a sound blocker. Again, something similar can be used called dodo MLV. Also available as a Pro Barrier which contains a Closed Cell Foam which will decouple the Actual sound deadening and the MLV (which you have to do).

It is interesting that you recommend Skinz. I was going to go with the Dodomat Pro barrier MLV in most areas (the flat parts of the floor) using a small amount of SecondSkin Damplifier pro where the metal gets thin and 'rings'. I was then going to put Dodomat's vinyl lining over the humps (i.e the exhaust tunnel).

 

Brilliant, thanks for the replies! I'm not going for originality, just wanting something to replace the old stuff that i removed when replacing one of the floor pans and something to deaden some of the noise .

It wasn't the Skinz I recommended, its the Silent Coat, do a google search for teamspb

I have been testing some interesting deadening products recently for Dodo mat, lots of combination mats to help reduce noise so if theres anything in particular you need to know just give me a shout.

 

I would then say use the Gladen Audio Aero-multi or the Dodo Dead Mat duo. This will have the deadening layer to increase the mass of the panel, plus the closed cell foam to trap noise, then if you want to emulate the OE deadening and put some mass loaded vinyl on top you can do so.
