Default Escort mk4 battery light/alternator question

Hello
For the last couple of weeks I've noticed the battery light starting to come on and my volt gauge fitted in the dash has been dropping from 12v to 10v but when accelerating the light goes out and the volts go up to normal.
The last time I was out the volts were steadily dropping as low as 7v as I approached home!
Tried the car today and the battery is flat. I cleaned up all connections and earths when it started happening a couple of weeks back.
I'm assuming the alternator is the cause?

Can it be refurbished DIY or is it just worth swapping?
Its a 1.3 so is there different cars I can use one from?
Finally, does anyone have one for sale?

Cheers
