Might not be economically possible, if it's even possible at all?! Not wanting to ask a stupid question, but has the crackle finish been machined off where the cap seals? I'm assuming the bayonet fit caps are no longer available?

I'd say if it's been machined you'll need a very slightly thicker seal?

Not machined just flatted off back to alloy, will have to look at the seal.

Buy a cheapo cap from a motor factors for a VW bayonet type and use the seal from that, they are the same, did that myself years ago.
