Default Fuel gauge intermittently dropping off, then works OK again.

As above, the fuel gauge is intermittently dropping off, then works OK again.

I haven't dropped the tank yet but is this most likely a loose connection on top of the tank?

1st time it happened was going fairly quick over a bumpy potholey road (unusual in Ireland...NOT ) and it dropped to well well below empty. Then a few minutes later it came back up again.

I've also noticed that it only fills up to approx 95%, before it filled up higher basically.

Don't want to drop the tank unnecessarily as it'll take time and maybe it's not needed!

Also, another thread I just started has a problem in that the ABS light comes on when indicating right. Possibly related to the clocks or not...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Philip.

Hi Phillip
I had a similar problem a few years back that turned out to be a bad connection in a wiring loom plug in the back of the boot between the tail lights from memory. I removed the plug / socket and soldered the wires and haven't had the problem since. David

Thanks Keith. I'll try what David said first and then if the problem persists, I'll drop the tank and fix the earth wire.
