anyone help ...i have rs500 alloys fitted to my 83 xr3i the tyers are rubbing on
the plastic brake pipe carrier that is fastened to the inner wing on full lock, would you use wheel spacers ..if so where who would be the best supplier

 

 

could it be the weight of the engine causing the problem ...this is a lot heavier than the standard cvh

 

to be honest, wheels are too wide for the car, not sure if spacers will help or hinder you in this matter

 

what size tyres? U may need to change to 195 tyres

tyres 205s /i have standard clover leafs but prefer these so may have to use spacers wheres best place to get them

 

here is my other car ....these wheels fit no issues (195s) , going to try the 205s on her

thanks for comments ..white one as no rot anywhere no welding, bought it blind last year from anglia car auctions they even delivered it ..when it arrived the truck bed was full of rust ...horror..turns out car had been stood for a while last time on the road 12years ... under close inspection rust was from the exhaust. when i removed the exhaust it was full of acorns and all manor of seeds i mean full right the way up to the down pipe .....squirrel larda .....

is it rubbing due to fitting RWD alloys onto a FWD car?

maybe smaller tyres would work or try ebay for spacers?

that lump came from a university in london been used for 20 or so years to test budding mechanics hence why its in a crate, what they did was disconnect bits move bits around then the students had to take a test ...

 

notice cvh gearbox ....apparently funds ..would not stretch far enough they only needed the gear box for balance

Can remember of my escort days u have to run 195 tyres on them otherwise they rub

 

I put my old lattice saph Cossie wheels on my mk4 escort van but had to change the tyres from 205 to 195 if I remember correctly

not sorted yet mate ..thems new tires /may have to change them or go down spacer route not happy about spacers /longer bolts then wheels may stick out too far

Please don't waste your money on the £6 ones. They are rubbish and cause steering wheel vibrations

 

cheers for that mate but mine are bolts /i will have to remove a wheel tonight and see what the thickness of the lip is, which basically keeps the wheel centralized and that the spacer as to be the correct fitment, ( sure you cannot put any old spacer on )still be cheaper than 4 new tires

 

if you are putting spacers on then make sure they are HUBCENTRIC ones

Ones I suggested are hubcentric. If you email them they sell them without the nuts

 

Dont bother with those cheap crappy ones linked above on ebay. You want HUBCENTRIC spacers.

I also did a stud and nut conversion while I was at it. I used 60mm Studs, which are longer enough to clear the spacers and alloys.

I have no rubbing and the wheels fill the arches nicely.

 

Also try taperpro. They sell spacers bolts etc.

 

Ones I linked are direct hub fit and not crappy? Machined out of solid piece of aircraft alimuinm.

You ave linked 12mm thick ones which have a extra flange for the wheel to sit on. On 5mm it is impossible to have extra flange as that's what the original hub flange sticks out by so they are the best you can buy. Far better than the cast multi fit ones which taper in thickness

i have some eibach hubcentric ones that will fit, think they are 20mm tho.

Hub centric spacers are quite thick though I've never seen any thinner than 20mm. Love your white mk3 espcecually with the rs2k lump

 

The ones you linked are crap, they fit onto the hub and reduce the space required for the alloy to sit central on the hub. Its a pain fitting the wheels onto the hubs as it is without spacers, So using hubcentric spacers are the better option. If you feel 12mm is to thick you can always get the back grinded down.


I also have a FRST and theres 5mm spacers on the hubs, Same type as you linked above and fitting the wheels is a bloody nightmare, and the alloys barely sit on the hubs.
