Question what's this for?

could some one tell me what this hole just below the distributor drive is for please?

i read on a post from turbosystems that it's used in pinto cortinas for the fuel pump but this is a 200 block and i don't think cosworths had a mechanical fuel pump or cortinas had a 200 block??.

It's an old design so it's conceivable that it may have originally driven a mechanical fuel pump

do you mean that some 200 blocks left the factory with the machining done to accept a mechanical pump fitted? i.e. not destined for a stock cosworth YB spec engine?

no, i mean the pinto block is an old design so maybe the block castings were all the same, it might have just been cleaned off to make it look pretty
