Default Mk 4 Mondeo Titanium X intermitent heavy steering

Hi guys,

got an intermittent problem that started after going through a puddle with the o/side front wheel, steering went very heavy as if the power steering had failed but after stopping restarting engine it was fine this was a few months ago.

recently noticed that whilst parking car in multistorey carpark again the steering went very heavy at tickover but came back normal

this has happened on 3 occasions in the last week

car is a 2008 with 177k on clock it is serviced regularly

advise please on where to look 1st

thanks Dangermouse

The filter inside the power steering reservoir is probably blocked. Look at the reservoir, it is probably wet around the outside and the fluid will be foaming when on tickover. Quite common on Mondeos.

If so, drain the reservoir and remove. Either clean the filter inside it or replace it, I changed mine recently, think it was Ł18 for a brand new one, plus a litre of fluid to top it up again.

Look at page 5 of my thread, you will see what I mean. https://passionford.com/forum/restor...-on-20s-5.html

No problem. If you get a new reservoir and it comes with a green piece inside it and the one you take off the car doesn't have it then take it out of the new one.
