I'm looking at changing the colour of my track car wheels. Can I coat straight over the top or is it a blast back to bare metal job?

There are a few different types of powdercoat, some will take more layers, some wont. Some are thermoplastic so will melt when heated, other types are thermosetting so won't re-melt.


Definitely have the wheels stripped back IMO!

 

Have a look at the rubber type paint, I am trying to remember the name but you can peel it off, I think that would work and is simple DIY, if you cock it up the worst is a strip and re do as you would be doing anyway.

Plasti-dip is good stuff, done a few bits with it in the past!

 

That's the sort of stuff, I think you could just do that over powder coat and pull it off if not needed.
