Default Type 9 bellhousing Swap

Hi All

I would like to find out. If I'm running a standard 2.0 L engine with type 9 gearbox with 2.0L bell housing can I use the same gearbox on a V6 engine with the a v6 bell housing or would I have to buy a v6 type 9 gearbox?

Please advise

Cheers

IIRC, the input shafts are different lengths between the 4 cylinder and V6 type 9 boxes

What about a V6 type 9 gearbox fitted to 3.0 Essex motor.

If I change the bell hosing only to v6 cologne for a 2.9 v6 Cosworth BOB engine would that configuration work for my BOB provided I have the correct diff and prop setup?

On that note could I also use the 3.0 V6 Essex flywheel on a 2.9 V6cologne Cosworth Bob motor?

Please advise

Any recommendations on the above with swapping out Essex bell housing to a Cologne? Gearbox would have been originally been fitted to 3.0 v6 Essex motor.

From what I remember you can mix and match bell housings.

Years back my brother fitted a 5 speed type 9 to a 3 litre Capri using a V4 transit bell housing.

As far as I'm aware, over here the type 9 was never fitted to the Essex V6...

If you try and fit an Essex V6 gearbox to a BOB the input shaft might not be long enough as the when fitting a type 9 to the Essex the input shaft needs to be shortened.

Did you not get any 2.8i Granadas or Capris you could get a gearbox from out there ?

Thanks Mark

I'll have to check for maybe a very old one. Mostly the Granada's here, 2.0L, 3.0L v6 and 3.4L

The Cortina as well, very much similar

Will look into Capris but not easily found.
