I have tried a few places nad not had much luck. Can someone suggest the name of somebody would sell the speedo drives/cogs for the gearbox? My speedo cable is fine and functioning yet somehow doesn't spin so one of the drive cogs in the box has gone and would like to replace both to make sure I have no problems going forward.


Any ideas where to source?

 

Keep checking eBay is your best bet they come up now and again but command about the £100 mark.

I had the same absolute ball breaker of a problem lately. I thought it was the cable, replaced that, same issue. Thought it was the speedo drive that the cable connects onto, replaced that, same issue.

Thought the speedo worn on the main shaft of the box has disintegrated so had to remove the box and split it.

Turns out there are 2 types of speedo worm. 1 is where there is a clip like this holding the speedo worm on:



My clip broke but they can be got in the USA for $9.

The other type is a circlip type clip and a ball bearing that goes in the centre of the speedo worm.

I have the speedo gear on the main shaft, ball bearing, circlip type clip and speedo drive all for sale.

What do u need mate?

The mechanic had it apart to remove so have not seen it first hand. Will pull it out again this weekend when I clear some space in the garage to put the car back in the air

I see. This one goes on the main shaft inside the gearbox. The pic I posted last goes into the side of the box and connects onto the orange one you posted, speedo cable connects to the other side of it.

So, do you need both of these?

Considering what its going to cost i will check. I had thought $50 i would be able to get both...but personally not convinced they are the root of the problem...will check condition of the driven gear

 

Let me know how u get on but 50 bucks most likely won't solve your problem! Unless it's only the clip holding on the speedo worm has broken! These parts are very hard to come by as the T5 is old now. Full rebuild kits can be got from Bara with all pars needed so you might possibly want to go down that route someday.
