I bought a 205 from a guy that said it was good condition just bored. After buying and gettingIit delivered I had a friend look at it and it has large scratches on the bores. So question is how much can you bore it.

 

Are they scratches though or has it been honed?

 

No quite deep scratches. Got it honed to see if that would help b didn't. My pal the mechanic said it looks like it's been done with a blunt bit

 

That's shite, any chance of returning it? Personally I wouldn't use it after .5 over as they are plentiful and any further I'd be worried but that's my opinion im no expert.

 

It's my own stupid fault I bought it and left it in the garage for a good few months and never looked at it then when I was going to start building it I noticed the marks.

 

From what I recall oversize pistons go to plus 1mm but would not risk that on a 205, you can sleeve the bores and start afresh, but again not worth the cost on a 205 really. Cheaper to just find another good block.

 

I have 92mm pistons running too much boost 2.2b with T4 on a 205 for 7+ years now. It will let go in the end obviously but its great while it lasts

not ideal but I had the pistons and random block so why not.

I wouldnt advise it unless your prepared for total destruction. Better off buying a 200block if building a new engine for the sake of it. lets face it a 205 block is worth 100quid. For 500 more you have peace of mind.

 

What power are you running at 2.2b must be quite a bit?

I'm sure I friend of mines was 92.5 and went through the bore at that on a 205.
Why not save yourself a crank/ rods etc and stick a 200 in now?

 

I can't remember the last time I saw a good 200 block go for 5-600?!!!

Know how you feel though mate, I bought an engine off someone on here when I bought my saph as a temp one in 2006 as when I bought it off a mate it needed a rebuild.
Paid £1500 although a mate picked it up for me and dropped it off. At the same time I was buying a house and although I had fitted the engine it didn't want to run right and just got left. Eventually got round to it and oil/water had mixed so assumed hg failed. Took it off and the block had cracked round 3 bolt holes!! Obviously messaged the guy but he said it was fine when he has it and how does he know I didn't use it/rag the shit out of it etc blah blah, it had never been on the bloody road 😂😂 paid an expensive lesson that day!!

 

I'm worried as I bought a unground crank. Got it checked for straightness which is fine.
