Default 3k fun car

Hi guys

I've got 3k to spend on a fun car and I was wondering what the options are:

Fiesta ST - like the looks of them but heard they need more power.

Clio 182 - heard great things bout these but heard electrics ain't great on French cars.

Megane 225 - been offered one and looks really nice but put off by the electrics stories.

Any other suggestions?

Something jap? 200sx come within this budget, maybe a BMW 3 series of sorts (sort of thinking about budget drift track cars here).

Definitely Subaru Impreza in my opinion you won't come across more fun car for the bucks. I find with low power rwd you just always want more power, I found this with a n/a saph.

Personally don't think fiesta st's are that fun, been in two one had over 200bhp aswell.

For that sort of money you will get a pretty good Subaru Impreza.
I bought a 2001 WRX STI for my Son. It was only Ł2800 and came with a 6 speed gearbox conversion, coil overs and massive AP front brakes. Bang for Bucks cant be beat!!

lol just got rid of one. Liked it and it went really well with the remap but stupid problems like leaky doors seals and door locks jamming shut made me sold it.

Thanks for the replies guy but I forgot to mention that my 3yr old daughter will be in the car every now and then so I've got to get something a bit sensible.

Gonna look at a Clio 182 this afternoon.

Must be a WRX if it has a 6 speed conversion, STI's have a 6 speed box std. Still a bargain though as the gearbox setup is Ł1500 min. And AP brakes would have been nigh on a grand!

I thought that, its one thing I never understand with the Subaru lot, they start with a wrx then spend a fortune fitting sti parts. Why not buy an sti to start with and save alot of cash.

Mini Cooper S (R53 - the supercharged one) will be more fun than all those 3 on a B road. If it's fun you want then I can't think of a better car for fun.

Haven driven both a Cooper S (which I love) and a Clio 172 I would disagree. For me the Clio wins hands down for a cheap fun car.

Seen numerous Clio 172's and 182's run absolute rings round Imprezas in the twisty stuff so I wouldn't spend my money there either

The guy had the original 5 speed box taken out and a 6 speed put in, just that plus the AP brakes cost more than I paid for it!! All the paperwork to prove it came with the car.

Guess you can say it about every make really, original purchase price probably. WRX would be 3k and Sti would be 7k to buy. Mod as you go along. Otherwise why not all buy R35 GTR's..

You mention 3k to buy a car, but what budget do you have to look after it? You can buy a supercharged Jag, or an impreza, or a clio for that cash, but 6 months later, the clio will still only have cost 3k, the Jag will likely be substantially more.

Personally I'd vouch for the clios, great fun and fairly reliable and the electrics arent any worse than most others IMHO.

Great until you want to corner hard, the clio will walk all over it.

Great choice fella. What type did you go for?

I've been running round in a 172 Cup for the last few months and it's a brilliant car, can't beat them for the money!

I went for a Arctic blue one with 90k on the clock, only had 2 owners, lowered slightly, lightweight alloys, k-tec exhaust, updated cams, got a few spares chucked in as well which was cool. Seems to go and handle really well plus decent on fuel lol.
