Default Ib5 gear sets and FD

Hey guys, gearbox number 4 is now on the way out with first becoming very hard to engage unless stationary and an almighty whine when coming off the throttle so deciding to go with the ib5. I've found an IB5 from a p reg 1.8D near me which I'm going to get but from what I've heard the ratios are near useless and cruising rpm is about 4000 on the motorway. I'm looking at either a 1.6 fiesta Zetec box or a 1.3 ka box to take the gears out. However if quite like the 3.82 final drive and from my understanding these boxes have an FD of about 4.3 iirc? Is the final drive from the diesel box suitable for use with either gear set to get a decent usable box. Would be nice to do 70 at about 2800-3000rpm in top but still have a box that's isn't overly long on the ratios.

Diesel box's are longer not shorter, you will be doing about 2500rpm at 70mph depending on wheel size, 1.3 Ka ratio's are almost identical to the RST ones.

Thanks for that Karlos. It's got a diesel box in there currently as its all I could find at the time (RS is in Cyprus). Will get this box and a 1.3 ka and swap out the ratios. Shame I don't have the LSD to stick in as well, uncle threw the original gearbox away after I came back to the UK...
