Where exactly is the engine number on a cosworth 200 block?
Where exactly is the engine number on a cosworth 4x4 engine block? and how many letters/numbers is it?
I can not go by chassis number as the engine is a second hand item
Also is there anyway to tell if it is a sapphire 4x4 200 block or an escort cosworth 200 block just by looking?
Thanks
Marc

Above is also correct along with numbers sometimes stamped by the gearbox mounting lug. And on the lug would be engine code as per pinto ie N5A for example which was a 205 injection pinto.

The number starting v90 is most likely to be the actual part number for the block
The actual engine number should be stamped on the o/s of the engine on a flat area right of where it has the raised 200 letters
And slightly behind and above the alternator mounting , if this is clear of any markings then you most likely have a new block as said already
The four 2's are relative to piston sizing as there is four choices 1 to 4
ie an engine could have 4112 indicating the actual piston used in each bore
Ford ask for this info when ordering pistons
Cheers
