Sierra fuel/temp guage problems
Hi All, I am using a 1989 Cosworth Sapphire as donor for a kit car. Due to the car being written off I have been able to use all parts for project including instrument panel and wiring loom. Unfortunately I had trouble with the wiring and sent to many "experts" who made a complete mess of everything. Before being mutilated I had got the engine running and a correct(ish) reading on the temp gauge but not the fuel gauge as it was not connected. I have now managed to rectify most of the "experts" faults apart from the fuel and temp gauges which are now both reading maximum after a few seconds. The temp sender is now new Ford item and the fuel sender is via Westfield.
My Question: On the wiring diagrams they refer to a rectifier for these 2 gauges but when I take the panel apart there is only direct connections through the PCB, am I missing something, should there be another component? I do see there is a diode meant to be in-line on the Brown/white from the temp. sender which "experts" may have removed but would this affect gauges or have they possibly cooked them.
