Advice on what to look for on a Saph?
I am going to see a Moonstone blue Saph on Sunday and I'm a bit nervous that I will miss something that could end up costing a fortune, so I'm after a bit of advice on what to look for.
It is 2wd and quite modified mechanically, namely T34 hybrid, big intercooler, big brakes (I think AP?), chipped, injectors.
I am going to get it up on a ramp and have a good poke around underneath, is there anywhere to pay even closer attention to than usual?
How long does it usually take a healthy engine's oil pressure light to go out?
I've read about the temperature gauge on some people's cars being quite on the low side, is this usual or should it get up to temperature and stay half way? How long does it usually take to get up to temperature?
Thanks for any help and I promise lots of pictures if I do get it.

I started a similar thread before I bought my Saph back in January.

if i can be blunt a near30 year old cossie can be a money pit[like a lot of other old cars] you pay rs tax and cossie tax on the bits though
if buying a car at the upper end of your budget be very careful
if buying a car at the upper end of your budget be very careful
As I've said it is modified and will stay that way, so won't be paying big prices for NOS bits. There are far too many being tucked away as investments and this won't be one of them. It has had money spent on it and the price allows a budget for sorting out niggles.

From memory oil light shouldn't be on?!! Been a while since I drove mine but should go off straight away. Has it got an oil pressure gauge?! Cos then you can check pressure from cold and see what it drops too once warmed up.
If they don't mind you doing it and you have one check the compression on all cylinders asthen you know where you stand with that.
As said check for rust everywhere!! Especially where the beam mounts sit, doing a resto on mine and had to cut that whole section out as it has collapsed

Thanks for the replies. I checked it over very throughly and it is a good un. A few bits paintwork wise, namely the bonnet is stone chipped and the laquer is poor in places and a few other minor bits of paint.
Mechanically it seems perfect, a very healthy 400bhp which is enough for me, with proof of a recent rolling road.

Have you got the car yet? If so, are you pleased? Put some photos up so we can see what its like. It sounded like a good one and should go well with 400 bhp!!
Sorry for not updating the thread, I've been enjoying it too much!
Here are some pics I posted on the Rs website;

I've been out in it a few times, weather permitting... The power is in one word... Awesome, I can't believe the kick up the arse it gives me at 4k and I don't dare go above 5k as it is very quick. I've got a few bits I want to sort, most importantly a few bits of paint and the wheels will be changed. I really like the look of the Revolution Milleniums so if anyone knows of any for sale let me know.
Cheers for all the advice it is very much appreciated and I will try to get some decent pictures at the weekend.

Glad you like it mate, take its your first cossie?
I remember a 400bhp moonstone saff on eBay a few months ago it had gold comps and morrettes, iirc it was around the 8.5k mark. Haven't seen pics of yours yet but wonder if yours is the same car I mentioned mate

Mine wasn't advertised anywhere and the previous owner has had it for about 10 years. He offered me first refusal as he knew I would look after it.
