I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who's sold their saph and regretted it and others that have sold up and said its the best thing they've ever done. I'm wondering what people's experiences are and what they bought after?

Basically i'm getting cold feet with mine, not the fact its unreliable or anything but i'm worried about it going walkies, going bang, getting scratched etc. It's not concourse, however i'd say its a very tidy example, standard exterior running an self built old skool stage 3+ mapped by NMS. I've spent alot of money over the last 2 years which i know i won't get back. It's gotten to the point where i don't enjoy driving it anymore simply because of the "what if" scenarios.

I'm thinking about something a little more modern, maybe a 03 onwards WRX STi or an Evo 8.

I know i'd be kicking myself in the long run for not keeping the saph as i've wanted one since i was 13 (now 26).

Don't sell it bud! I sold mine last year and now I wish I hadn't of done. I miss it more than I thought I would. I had a focus rs as well and thought I'd be happy with just the focus. Couple of months later I bought a series one and got bored of that cos it was too slow. Then I sold both the series one and focus and bought a escort cossie a couple of month ago but I'm not overly impressed with it. I was thinking of selling it but may just keep it and do the bits what I don't like about it

 

Mine sits in the garage most of the year.
Comes out for the occasional drive here and there.
Keep thinking a waste of a car sitting there.
But would certainly miss it if I sold it, unless got a stupid offer that couldn't refuse

 

Sold mine two weeks ago and haven't missed it at all. Bought an E46 M3 and absolutely love it.

Yeah i was reading your post earlier. Have you not thought about sourcing standard bumpers for the escos?

I suppose no matter what the car, you'll always be over paranoid about it

 

If your not enjoying it then move on Liam, Kev had one of the best Saffs in the scene yet moved on.
Plenty of better cars out there for the same money mate

I was out in it earlier and on the way home a bloke on an aprillia rsv pulled up beside me as I came off a roundabout, looked at me, lifted his visor up and with a big grin on his face gave me the thumbs up then sped off up the road lol made me smile

IV had mine 11 years now iv seen so many saphs come and gone on here people that said never sell mine have moved on some regretted it some loved moving on but you never get that buzz off an old cosworth coming on boost and turning heads tbh but hey mines never going for sale that's for sure .

 

Haha, ive got an e46 M3 that i almost sold to buy a Saff, am i mad ?

 

I owned a 2wd and a 4x4 mid 90's and loved them both. Since then an E36 Alpina, E30 M3, Delta Grale EVO 2, a few Evo's and a Mk1 Focus RS over the years. 2011 came and I bought a lovely straight clean 92' Smokestone Sapph, unmarked sharktooths, superb leather, rebuilt engine, stage 3 etc. Loved the feel of driving a Sapph again but just didn't use it enough (700 mls between mot's). Sold it to a mate about 18 months ago and unfortunately he has just locked it up and hasn't used it at all. I have been running around for the last year in a BMW E92 335i with a small remap, goes very very well and is a lovely car to drive but I am missing my old Sapph truth be told and am in the process of trying to buy it back from him but i'm not holding my breath...

Everyone has different aspirations and circumstances so it's not a question we can answer for you, however, I have long been of the opinion that there is no point in selling mine unless I knew 300% I wouldn't just go and buy another one 6 months later.

If you know the car well having owned it for a long time, it doesn't make sense to sell it, only to get another one that might end up being a load of grief, obviously that ou applies if it's not a shitter tho, but you get the general jist of what I mean.

I'll be selling mine within the next 12 months I guarantee, just don't get any joy from it now and after 15 years I think it's time I moved on with something more special or put the money into a bigger house etc.

 

I've had two saffs a few years ago and got fed up off the worry ect as you say, after owner a few diffent cars audis vw's ect ect I'm now looking for another saff for me no matter what you always miss them and keep searching sites for another ect.

Not used it for 3 years, but yesterday pulling a mates 2wd saff out of the garage for him & turning it around made me miss mine massively. Mission this year is to get it back out

With regards to people comparing the E46 M3. IMO there is no comparison, I've been out in an E46, drove one. Didn't do anything for me, they're boring.

Drove E92 V8 M3 with DCT & loved it though

 

I think if you are a true enthusiast a car is always harder to sell as it becomes part of family life ! So if its being sold because of lack of use then make the effort to use it

 

Agreed the 46 m3 is a nice car not a impressive car unlike the csl or the later v8

 

only ever had 2 saphs a 2wd/4wd but lost count of how many I have driven for mates etc, and being events organiser I speak to way more owners than the average joe, most say unless they have secure storage/parking its causes them sleepless nights the worrie of theft/damage or as any owner will tell you expensive breakdowns, it all comes down to your love for the car or simply wanting a change

Its a car guys not the death of a child. When mine is sold that's it move on without looking back. Too much Hype & BS about these cars mines a nice one but it don't rule my life. As a car my SLK is streets ahead.

Like most on here i have had plenty of saphs but best move i made was ditching them for more modern cars and now run a gtr could not get me to own a saph again if you paid me

 

I've had loads of modern sporty 3-series and other cars - I've enjoyed them but they've come and gone whilst I've kept the Sapphire. None of the BMs felt like the Sapphire to drive. For some that's a big plus but I genuinely enjoyed the Sapphire more to take out for a pure drive.....so I kept it.

This is not the same for everyone

 

i"ve owned cossies on and off for more than quarter of a century-i had a saph and 3 door together last year,the 3 door i hardly drove-spent loads time working on it,the saph i used as a daily for a while-again catching up on the previous owners mechanical neglect-getting the car good,driving well-but still masses of room for improvement,its all a matter of where do you stop?

when they first came out i really aspired to own one-and true to form my first was the best fun,but then i was younger and daft as opposed to just old and stuipid like today

i wont own another unless one comes my way at a deal i cant refuse

Im starting a saving plan so that I have a contingency for if ever mine goes wrong, other than that, if it gets nicked or crashed into, insurance will cover what its worth. Obviously id rather nothing happened to it!

As for buying something newer, thats all well and good, but newermotors can go wrong and cost just as much as a cossie could. In the end id say it comes down to if your bored of it or not

You cant compare the modern technology of the GTR to a Sapphire Cosworth but its down to individuals personal choice.
I have had my 2wd Sapphire for 21 years, never failed an mot, never failed to put a big grin on my face when 450 bhp comes on boost and never fails to suprise me at how many modern performance cars costing 4 times as much cant match its pace.
I was at Simply Ford at Beaulieu yesterday and had lots of people taking photos of it and asking me questions about it. As fewer and fewer of them are left the interest in them will still be there in years to come.
They are very old school compared to your GTR, M3s etc but I accept that and enjoy it for what it is.

 

Cosworths arnt that expensive for bits say at ST3 whereas modern cars still break down and the cost involved in sorting them properly spirals as its more a dealer fix and so on, with a cosworth you just get the spanners out!

 

Well said Jay, what is the point of having a nice car sat in your garage for most of the year, there must be some spare time in any ones life to get some driving enjoyment in!!!

 

Not if you live in the heat and humidity of Brisbane mate ! That M3s air-con must get used a lot!

 

I replaced my RWD Saff with an Evo 8...and hated it.

As others have said, the E46 M3 is a bit boring to me as well. The E92 V8 M3 is a delight to drive though. I've now got a 400+bhp BMW 135i and have to say, it feels like a modern Cossie in many ways. Boost comes on quickly and aggressively but it's still refined enough to drive every day and it's RWD, so a lot of fun when pushed.

 

I sold my saph and regretted it so bought it back. Sold and stripped the moonstone 3dr and regret that every time i see one.

Sold and stripped the white 3dr rep - and regretted it.

Now just bought a base model 3dr to do up as a cossie 3dr.

I even opened my garage up to get some stuff out the garage and had a peek in the saph - the interior is such a nice place to be - i really started to miss it there and then lol
