Evening I have an issue with the fans not working on my saph. Got back in it today and left it ticking over and the temp gauge went up and over where they would normally cut in and nothing so I iturend the car off so it didn't boil over and had a look. The fuse had blown so changed it and still nothing. Then unplugged the fan switch and tried putting power straight into to see if it was that and still nothing. So put power straight to the fans and on they came. So from the tests I've done it would seem there in no power getting down to the fans and that the looms can be an issue would that mean that the look would need replacing for the fan?

Also is there a way anybody has bypassed so they are on all the time and have they done it off the coil so on and off with the ignition? as I would like to go to pod Sunday but obviously don't have anytime to sort it properly or would having the fans running constantly do the car no good?

A bit of a novice so excuse the stupid questions but about time I learnt a thing or to seeing as I own a cossie lol

I have fan issues but it is more 19 yr old girls that stalk me!

I would first check the earth or wire a new earth, many cossie looms get corroded at this age. Rod Tarry could build a new loom and that would solve lots of future probs. you can get new sensors that are stand alone and cut in to the pipe work from demon tweets with their own relays etc. You can also wire in a 30 amp relay to manually over ride or buy a stack gauge that has a control.

If in any doubt just call a mobile auto electrician

 

When this happend to mine the relay in the fusebox had melted so I just started from scratch and rewired it from the battery with its own relay switched from the standard fan switch. Only took a couple of hours to do, possibly get all the bits you need from a local motor factors and I think theirs diagrams on hear somewhere.

I'm guessing with a new loom it would run direct from the battery with some fuses and relays in place? If so I think I will just order one up if it's new it'll work and should be sorted instead of chasing my tail with 23 year old wires

 

Yes new loom direct of the battery via a fuse and relay, think the ones for sale are about Ł100 but if you have a soldering iron you can make one for about Ł10

Should be quite easy to do yourself if you have a bit of electrical knowledge. 4 pin 12v relay and a pre-wired relay holder and you are well on your way.

 

You are right, it is quite a common problem. I put in a seperate relay/ fuse holder and fan wiring loom and have never had any more problems.
