Was an option on sapph from factory although expensive so the odd installation could surface, 3drs also had the same option but very rare, aftermarket aircon systems available but don't know how it would fit these days with big intercoolers etc

Yeh Martoon fitted ac to his 3DR.

My saff used to have air con. IT was an aftermarket kit though. I took the lot off cause it didn't work.

Mine had factory aircon which I've removed but kept everything safe. It gets in the way a bit for big intercoolers as said but I'm sure I saw a kit to fit a bigger cooler with the a/c still fitted somewhere.

I installed an original aircon set in my 24v sapph, it's in the project thread in my sig. But as already said by others, the condenser will be in the same location as an RS500 style intercooler on a YB. Although I do believe there are solutions for that, probably something like Martin used.

The bulkhead is different on the aircon cars I believe.

Ben Cresswell fitted it to his but it was quite involved as I recall after speaking to him

You'll probably end up trying to find an entire air con model sierra just to cut out the bulkhead section.

it would probably be easier to fit some kind of aftermarket kit I'd have thought?

Yes bulkhead is different so would need modding to fit OE stuff

Plus if you want OE stuff on a non facelift sapphire, you need to move the PS pump to the exhaust side as the OE aircon pump mounts in it's place.

I did it years ago in my saph cosworth.I pulled it out of a ghia.
Its a dashboard out job,and you have to cut a big hole out of the bulkhead.
Also had to change to a polly-v setup,so i could get the ac pump in,oh and had to make a mounting bracket for the pump.Other than that all went in pretty easily.
Still have a a few kg of r12 in the garage if you need any.
