Default Something Different and Fixed by MSD

Been after a 7 seater since having the twins 6 months ago.
Really don't like French cars and fancied something different to a ford.

Landrover disco 2 was on the cards. A 4x4 really tickled my fancy. V8 on lpg but then came across this.

A Jeep Commander

7 full seats, each row sits higher than the front, cream leather, memory seats and mirrors, full dealer history and I really like the Matt black wrap. High mileage but drove very smoothly, V6 3.0 was quiet with no rattles or knocks, underneath looked solid and gear box nice and smooth.

Had it a few days then it went in for tints

Seen MSD had an offer on remaps so got that booked in a couple of days later.
The change is outstanding!

So james, thank you very much pal. Even messing about down back lanes and town driving after the 40 or so miles on the motorway I've got 9mpg more.

Probably circa 255bhp and 455ibs.

For a 2.4 ton truck she shifts like hell.

Certainly not everyone's cup of tea but the 4x4 itch has been scratched and I'm very happy with the Commander

Next I want to get a double din head unit which will work very simply with my iPhone and update the speakers.

Then hopefully at some point get it lifted on chunky tyres, add a rack with the spare and some flood lights and end up like this

Need better than standard now.

They were smoking after going through Weeton! I'll have to look if anyone does updated discs and pads for it.

Really pleased with it James! When it kicks down Christ it's a different beast. Thanks again mate, really appreciate it.

(Thank your lass for the brew)

They only shipped in 2 engine choices for the UK.

3.0 V6 turbo diesel which I have and the 5.7 HEMI V8.

I was tempted for the V8 with LPG but looking at the figures I guessed the V6 would be far better for me as I wanted it mapped.

It's lovely to drive, nice smooth and lazy. Not very wide either.

I've had an improvement of 9mpg as well

Getting around 26mpg.

Was 17/18 before the remap.

Only had it a week and half though so will see what she does over a longer period.

Cheers Greg.

It's very nice mate.

Bet it's a fun drive when giving it some.

I forgot to ask when I was there. Is it possible I could buy one of the small msd stickers for my truck?

Spot lights on American metal has to be KC Daylighters! Always wanted them on my Disco, the Yellow with the smiley faces. Truck looks well, looks narrow but then it may be the photos. One of the 4x4 most people probably overlook but good robust beast.

I'll be getting the slim LED floodlight bars for it.
Length and width wise it's not much different from the Mondeo.

Mercedes engine so should be fine for plenty of time yet with regular oil changes. On 134k at the moment but runs really smooth and quiet.

Thanks James. Once I've given her a full service I'll get back up for a power run
(And some better brakes )

Wasn't Stu doing some testing or something on some type of engine oils? Think I seen him post something about it ages ago.

We haven't used much else really, but I would say from the comparison tests I've seen from others, it is probably the best one to use,

Glenn,
Cars are made to work all over the world with varying fuel qualities, being services well,
Never being serviced quality of fluids used and all need to perform as expected.

Tuning a car, any car you improve the performance as it's now mapped for a better quality fuel which in turn will burn better, and can increase power as a by product of better fuel burn as the oils used to service the engine are of better quality. Etc etc (I think)

Look at Africa or any other dive country, cars in a harsh environment with no servicing yet run forever.

Does it not depend on the map too? I mean some are aimed at that, some are aimed at "how much quicker can we go?!"

pretty much fuel quality varies massively around the globe, and it's ability to control combustion varies too.
a remap takes advantage of the uk's good quality and also to push the engine and surrounding components a little harder which in turn releases power and efficiency.
if done correctly no issues will arise, done poorly you can wreck the engine and drive train very quickly.
engines are built to last log term, manufacturers are cautious as they want good press for long lasting, which is why they now release facelifts and new models so much more frequently to make up for the fact they built their cars so well in the first place.
net result for the consumer is that there is loads more potential in our purchases than what we are sold.

Edit to add, a remap can let an engine run a bit hotter or higher fuel pressure within safe limits, in turn the engine can use less fuel or allow a higher gear to be used and thusly drop the revs to reduce consumption.

The Jeep has now been named Project Bat Mobile thanks to Matt

Swapped over all the interior bulbs for LED items.

Got some fly eye vinyl for the lights and some carbon fibre 4D vinyl and have a bash at wrapping some in the interior trim at the weekend.

Picked up some bigger tyres I got for a bargain price of Ł215 from eBay. Normally about the Ł500 area

Also ordered a 2 inch lift kit for it so I'll get it down to MikeyRobbo for fitting once it arrives. Should get about 3-3.5 inch of lift with the tyres and kit.

Found out though that they have to use certain types/brands of oils and additives. Pricing it up just for the fluids comes in at Ł460
I'll have to start stocking up bit by bit.

I'll get some pics of my attempt at wrapping.

Also need to reprint the wheels as the Romanian car wash guys stripped the paint off with the pressure washer

Tyres fitted. Just need to clean the soap off and re paint the wheels. Do the callipers silver as well.

Glenn, if I don't like it it's easy enough to remove.

Warren, might get the grenade tubes after the roof cage and light bar.

Cheers Greg.

on a run its way into the mid to high 30s easily, but my comute to work is around 2 miles each way so it doesn't even get a full warm up cycle done, getting about 12-14mpg average during the week now its all traffic based with an average speed not even in double figures too
