8 million! That's a hell of a lot for acar that's been written off! Last time I saw an F1 sell it was about 3 and a half million. Its getting silly how much some cars are selling for now IMO, god knows how much longer it can go on for.

Quote from the article,

His car was destroyed after a crash (pictured) - but he successfully claimed Ł9,100 for repairs - the highest car insurance payout recorded in Britain

Lol, sounds about right.

It will always have the stigma of being crashed, at 8 million think of what you could have instead, and several at that.

Just to be accurate, It hasn't been written off, it has been repaired, if it was written off the insurers would have done exactly that and sent for salvage. It was Ł910,000 repair.

As above. Just a crash roadie. Nothing recorded against it.

steep at 8mill. But find another forsale.

Tho one recently changed hands for $10mill. the owner is in pistonheads and had posted photos of the engine or having work done and a sports exhaust fitted!

I'd buy if I had 8 million burning a hole in my pocket. At the end of the day McLaren probably would of repaired it and not some place under the arches. Plus Rowan Akinson is the first owner.

Liking the tags, ye I'm not sure I could ever justify spending several million on a car, but then again i'm skint and have never had a fraction of the money that the sort of people by those cars have.

Take a look at the prices for say the F40 just after they came out Ł1m and you could buy one for 125k a few years ago,
Now they have gone mad again so what goes up can come down.

Very true, I see they are at the 700k-1million. Maybe I'll win the lottery just after they plummet!

its just supply and demand at the end of the day. Same reason why rs500's are going for silly money. No rs500 is actually worth Ł65k in real terms, but thats what some are prepared to pay to own one.

If you are a billionaire and youve got the hard on for a maclaren f1 RIGHT NOW and theres only 1 for sale, you will pay whatever it costs no matter how stupid it seems to us normal folk.

It is madness but a lot of these cars are of the age now where the kids of the day now have the money to get thier childhood dream. However most of those cars have got rarer since then. And the supercars were always rare.

Ł8m plus going rate today for an F1.

If you want one today, that's what they cost and yes, if I had the money I'd pay that for what I consider THE iconic super car.

Yes, it would be a shame if this gets parked up in a collection and not driven after it has been used so much as a relatively normal car.

The guy I know with one is the second highest known mileage after this one I believe.

I think Gordon Murray's development car (XP3 ?) will have the highest mileage, and he uses his all year round as well.

There was many investment people saying 5 years ago that cars would be a better return investment than property and by the looks of it high end cars over the last 5 years have been 50-80% better lol

It is XP3 yes, he lives quite near me, whilst he uses it a lot he also has one of every car he has ever been involved with so has a fair collection, one of my friends met him at Bedford on the evo track test of the Carrera gt and mclaren f1 but oddly Gordon used public transport and a taxi to get there. My friend drove him home in the Mac f1 and had a good tour of his collection. My friend was borrowing the Mac for the day's photo shoot.

I wonder if the stats on mileage is "customer cars" so xp3 might not be counted.

The Mac I am talking about is the blue one with high mirrors owned by "flemke" as he is known on piston heads. Flemke also owns the Carrera gt used one the test, he keeps it at my mates house.

Yes, he had the original wheels made again but in a bigger size for modern tyres, he has been experimenting with some carbon discs off an f1car as well.

He has kept all the std bits though.

The respray in blue was Ł100k at the factory.

It is often kept in Germany and regularly sees over 200 mph.

He has recently got a P1

It has been so long since I last saw the car I cannot remember the seat colour. I stopped doing regular track days when my daughter was born 6 yrs ago so I do not see the RMA crowd anymore, I think the last time track day I did with Flemke was 2 days at Spa and 2 days at the ring but he used his 911 RS 993 for that.

Most if not all mc f1 still have the same tyres, brakes( bar the LM) I noticed the other day one with different wheels, with uprated callipers, wheels, with up to date boots on.

I seem to remember the wheels were made of magnesium? And only had a certain life from when they were built?

guessing people who use them put different wheels ( one offs ) on, then back on the life expired wheels when just sitting in the garage as a show piece.

I believe the last Mclaren F1 to sell in this country went for Ł6,000,000 and that was around year ago. Values are definitely on the up!

Jesus I was well off with my figure of 3.4million then (maybe I'm going back further than I thought?)

Just been watching a Jay Leno vid on youtube though and he mentions how famous paintings have sold for in excess of $120million so spending a few million on art you can actually use doesn't sound that bad any more. Gotta say, think he has a point!
