Default Mindeo diesel hesitation

Hi guys,

My brother in law has a 56plate Mondeo tdci which between 75-80 develops a hesitation the will pop and send a cloud of black smoke out the back before returning to normal for a couple if minutes then it will happen again.
It also occasionally does this coming on boost around town, any ideas??

Much appreciated,
Kieren

I would change the fuel filter and go from there.

Diesel fuel has to have a minimum of 10% biofuel mixed in. Super market diesel can contain as much as 15%. As a result sludge/fungus can build up in the tank, lines and fuel filter which can cause misfires and hesitation. There are additives that dissolve this sludge/fungus. This happened to my mondeo ST tdci. Plus try adding mineral 2 stroke oil into the fuel. Mix ratio is about 300ml to 50litres of fuel.

Sounds like the EGR valve is sticking. Clean or blank it off.

Check the large EGR to intercooler hose that runs downwards at the front of the engine. Mine had a split in it and caused this. It's an easy fix and the hoses aren't that expensive either.
