I think having sunvisor screens may be a better bet and look more OEM on a car of that era rather than in the dash.

I can get a cheap one so just wondering would it work in the normal stereo hole, I wouldn't like it in the visor

On my kenwood it comes out miles as default. You then set it to where you actually want it to sit in normal operation, in regards to distance and angle. Once you have done this it everytime you power the unit on it goes to this postion. To give you an idea the screen actually comes out the depth of the head unit as default

So it should stand up just worried it would face the floor with how the stereo sits back abit

And where I set it for normal operation

If you think about it, it has to come out at least the depth of the screen

Looks good but On the mk4 escort there is about a 1inch over hang above the stereo and I don't think it would sit right

This won't be a lot of use, but somebody had the same problem, can't remember what car, but sure they used a spacer to move the head unit out of the dash by 10mm or so, to clear the dash...

Yeah was thinking that, or try and put it in the tray in the centre console

Probably easier to put it in the console, but a bit low down for a screen.. I managed to get a Pioneer 6 disc changer in the console and used the front panel of an old Ford amp to cover it, so it couldn't be seen. Or, would be a lot of fucking about, but would look good in where the heater vents are!
I've seen it done, but doubt it's easy...
