Default Breakdown Cover?

Who are you with guys with and what sort of cost?

My mrs cover with ETA is about to expire so we thought we might as well combine it and get both cars or people covered.

Not sure the Eco bods at ETA will even cover mine (but asked for a quote, they might surprise me).

So far have quotes from;
Green flag £146
RAC £130
AA £160

Cheers folks

best thing to so is swap each year between RAC and AA as they then offer you new customer massive discount normally half the going rate as they never offer current customers they best discount

If you are an RSOC member there is a discount with the RAC - Worth a lot more than the RSOC membership fee!

Its almost always cheaper through your insurance or bank these days.

I'm with rac, £7 a month. That covers me in any car. So if my other half had a problem I would have to go to the car and wait with her I guess.

Got mine via the bank account, seems to cover me for whatever I brake down in, if it's mine or not, as have used a few times and never asked if the cars are mine or not.

The other option is to not have any cover, then sign up when you need it. A friend does this; if he gets a problem he calls the AA, and if his membership has lapsed, he just signs up to the cheapest cover (usually about £40) to get them to come out, then when it expires he doesn't renew it, and signs up again if he gets another problem.

I've got greenflag through my bank account, but I get staff coverage with the AA anyway, so the last time he had car trouble (two coil plugs failed after leaving his Golf at the airport for a couple weeks) I just rang them, quoted my membership number, and then drove to where he was (fortunately only 10 miles away) for when the patrol got there. My dad did the same when my Escort broke down years ago, and used his RAC cover on my car.

.
I had a mate who tried this, with the AA and I think the RAC too and I'm sure they said he had to wait 24hrs before he could use the service !

plus it doesnt work if you need more than a local tow....

When i breakdown i want to be towed from anywhere in the country to whereever i want to go.

The basic packages usually only do a local tow.

Nationwide recovery (ie onward travel/relay), home-start and emergency accomodation if required with 6 callouts - all for £32 a year (it's the car that's covered - not personal cover, but that's fine for me)

The provider? Start Rescue.

My Dad has been with them for just over a year now. His first premium was £37 and had them out twice (one home-start with recovery to a local garage, recovered from the M6 to Grimsby). His renewal was £34. My car was added to his policy (it covers any driver with permission to drive) for £32 this year. To have my own policy would still only have been £39. That's 6 callouts per vehicle.

Look at the extras as well.

I'm with RAC. £9 a month full cover for me and the Mrs.

Always been spot on. Had to call them several times the other winter as my starter motor was shagged.

£130 for me and the Mrs through RAC. Might have to shop around next year as it sounds like there's some better deals out there.
