How does the new road tax work is it still 6 months and 12 months or can you buy 1 month towhat ever you need/want.

 

I believe the payment options are:

12 months
6 months
Monthly direct debit, that comes with a 5% surcharge

The reason I'm asking is the weather has been good and i may keep the car on the road for another month so only need a month so I might use direct debit then cancel it for November.

 

the new system is ideal just for that reason alone as we do on occassions get a early spring or late summer so its a great to have the choice

 

the monthly one starts i believe in november as mine runs out this month and only the 6/12 month one is an option at the moment.

 

Edit: "The Direct Debit will be cancelled and payments automatically stopped when you tell DVLA that you no longer have the vehicle, or the vehicle has been taken off the road and a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) has been made."

However as mick pointed out, direct debit payements wont be available till november.

 

Ah well looks like the car will be ticked away end of the month.

 

iv also been interested in knowing this. i tax my track car for the summer months only but thought it would be good if you could just add another month
