'02 Mondeo ST220 'Humming' Noise
Morning,
First post here but I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I'll try to explain the best I can but if anyone wants any more info then please ask.
Basically...
I have a humming noise coming from the engine compartment, now it intermittent and is worse either when I haven't used the car for a while (i.e. a day or two) or when i'm just cruising along and just maintaining speed. When I accelerate the noise goes away but if I decelerate using engine braking it is still there.
I have seen a couple of post similar on here that suggest a wheel bearing but the thing is with my noise is that it also happens when the car is stationary. One time when i picked it up from the garage it did it there and then when the engine was just idling over and the mechanic thought it was maybe a drive belt but he didn't take a very good look.
How can you tell if its a drive belt? or does anyone think its something else?
Cheers

Just some extra info:
The humming noise is louder when I take my foot off the accelerator.
Did a couple of tests last night as well:
When I press the clutch the noise goes away
BUT
If I leave my foot on the accelerator slightly and press the clutch the noise remains.

There is a vacuum hose, close to the bulkhead. It is in a "S" shape.
Change that for a longer hose, and make a loop in it.
This should solve your problem.
Google it, you`ll should find more info and pics of what hose etc exactly

I think its the moosing problem.
the st24 also surge on idle called hunting.
A copper pipe end with a 2mm hole drilled in to it.
on the air induction there are two pipes one goes to the intake plenum.
if you put the copper pipe end in there this will cure the moosing.
It's the most common problem to be solved on the mondeo's v6.
A coke 1 lt top would surffice.
simple 2min fix.
