Hi
just fitted a turbosytems ecu to my car. I' ve read that the air filter can be one of the biggest restricters to its performance. Not keen on the chrome cone of the K&N so whats my opitions ? barring a K&N in the standard airbox. Also would a dump valve benifit me as im now going to be upto around 180bhp. Thanks Daz

Air filter just depends on what you want to look at when you open the bonnet.
I'm sure most people will say a modified air box with a panel filter is the best.
Dump valves are pretty much just if you like the sound.

I always thought a dump valve was essential the further up the bhp you go. To keep the turbo spinning and reducing lag. Or is this once you hit over 200 hp. Do turbosystems do setups on the rollers ? As I was going to go to Motorsport developments to get setup.
Its a whole can of worms the great DV debate.
Yes the DV keeps the turbo freewheeling, however it empties the charge pipe etc which your turbo has to refill before boost returns.
Some people on here are running 200+ without a dump valve.
Its down to preference.
I prefer the way my car drives without a DV.

I am running over 200 without dumpvalve. A turbo spins up so quickly you won't notice the difference with or without.
The airfilter is simple. The more restriction the less bhp. A clean airfilter will performe better then a dirty one. Its one of the many factors that are important if you are trying to gain max performance. A quality one will do better then a bad one. I am running K&N inlay in a standard filter i believe.
On a dyno you might already not see the real difference between air filters as on the road air flow is different. Difficult to say what is better, just look for yourself. The engine needs the coldest air. I think a standard filter performance is better then a cone. Underhood temps are high at an escort
