HELP! AP 330 x 28 mm CP 5200 4pot Rattling/Grinding disc
Hi guys,
I hope you can help me with some advice,

At this moment my car has Gaz coilovers and Azev A (et18) wheels.

When i changed the original brakes for the AP ones my first encounter was that i needed spacers as the wheel did not clear the calipers.

It looked fine on the bridge as it seemed they cleared but after going for a test drive they did not
So in the end i ended up driving home with washers on the bolts.
As the clearence was a few mm away i sourced 3 mm spacers after fitting them that cleared the caliper.

So again i made a test drive i heard a lot of rattling sounds after taking the wheels of again i found the brake pad rattling clip grinding against the disc is this normal ? Or do the calipers have to be raised with a washer or so ?

In the end i took the rattle clips off and test drove again it seemed ok no rattling no grinding until i ran into a roundabout.
Steering the car to the left the rattling sound came back ...... Again an inspection this time the UK driverside (right) after taking a closer look i noticed the caliper wasn't exactly in the middle so i tried to move the caliper by adding a washer on each bolt of the bracket to move the caliper a mm to the left.
But the disc runs against the caliper as seen on the following pictures it eats the disc.....

Doesn't matter what i try the grinding stays can the wheel bearing be broken or does anyone have a suggestion or had this problem ??
Now i am in a state to change back the original brakes as this is becomming a frustraiting story ..........
I hope you can help me with some advice,

I have come across this before and the cause has been that the caliper mounting lugs (on the hub) are bent, this is usually caused during the fitment of new wheel bearings on a press, the old caliper carriers have more of a gap so you would not have noticed the problem previously.
You need to remove any washers you've used to pack the bracket out and bolt it all back up without the pads in place, you can then measure the gap either side and also check to see if the if the gap is constant or tapered, if the gap isn't tapered you can simply shim the bracket to make it right, don't use ordinary washers. I can help with shims that are made for this purpose, they come in 0.5mm thickness. If the gap is tapered then I'd get another hub.
Regarding the anti rattle clip touching the disc... Are those discs the one's that were bought from a rear kit of mine? If so you need to measure them as they may be 332mm, if so you can simply turn them back down to 330mm or fit a 1mm shim between the caliper and bracket, I have these.
Lastly someone mentioned that the washers should not be fitted under the head of the disc to bell bolts, this is incorrect and how you have it bolted up is fine.

Hi Martin,
This is correct i bought the set from Stephan and he bought them initialy for the rear so that explains the rattle clip.
If you could put in these 1mm shims with the last 2 brake line hoses your sending over that would be lovely could you make the shims for a three door bracket ? As i will put the brakes on my other car.
So we can asume the hub is bent as the left side fitted without any trouble besides the rattling clips.
But adding 3mm spacers and making a full lock backwards turn with the car yesterday ,made me brake a hockeystick , broke a bolt from the plastic inner wing as pushing the windscreen reservoir that far that it lost windscreen fluid so maybe broke that aswell.
Lesson learned in this is wheels are so important for now i will return back to the standard brakes and fit these on my three door until i get propper motorsport wheels for the escort and a new hub.
Martin can you send me a price for
2wd bells and brackets and do i need new set of bell bolts ? If so then two sets of those aswel.
Thanks!
