Default Fifi the Mk2 Fiesta

About time I started up a Fifi thread. Now I got some money, I've decided to start getting her ready for a fresh MOT but there was no way I'm putting her back on the road with these ghastly stonechips.

So I took a trip down to Halfords & Wilkos & got some paint, wet'n'dry & a cork to sort them out once & for all

I think you'll all agree this is a vast improvement. I also couldn't help but buy some tyre wetting spray

Fifi's a smart Fiesta again, now I need to wait on those bushes & exhaust front box to make her a quieter Fiesta

My car's in Burgundy red, quite a common colour for these despite being introduced in the last couple of years of Mk2 production. It's a lovely colour though the lighter reds are nice too

I'm keeping my car as stock as possible, including the carb that works fine, as the previous owner was an elderly lady & I've no idea if she's still with us so I'd like to keep her stock to tribute the first owner for keeping the car tidy

Thanks for the kind words mate. Dont know if i will be working on it this weekend as i also have a mk5 rs2000 that was abandoned in front of a barn. The battrie tray has gone but the rest of the shell is mint so i'm gonna weld that up so it doesn't get fooked up over winter. Yer mine will be ok when its done. But love the way yours is so unmodified. The way ford made it.

I was a graphic design student up in Scotland but since moving to Telford I'm currently unemployed. I just learned how to spray from Wheeler Dealers & from little kit building projects I've done

In other news, the new tie bar bushes have arrived

Got them from Flo-Flex & I'm pretty impressed with the service. They arrived about 24 hours from placing the order & they're a pretty good price too at £21 including postage. I got these because they are the only bushes I could find that looked like the correct spec. I'm fitting these when I've got the exhaust on as I bet the tie bar bushes will be a tougher job

Thanks Glenn, very much appreciated.

The exhaust front box has arrived today so I'll document the fitting for you lot. I've also arranged a guy on my street to help with the fitting of the new tie-bar bushes so I'll document that as well to help aid those who may not know how to fit them. I know most folk on here are mechanically minded so I want to help those who may not be

Was unable to put on the new box but I'm taking Fifi for her MOT on Monday & they'll fit it afterwards. However, the new tie bar bushes are on. Was unable to document it however. What I can say is that the old ones are made of this weird sponge & the reason Fifi was knocking was that on the offside, one of them had actually disintegrated!

Changing them was actually relatively simple & straight forward. the design of the bushes also eliminated the need for the horrid plastic "bearings". The car though still feels nice & the knocking noise is now a memory

Took Fifi for an MOT on Monday & I got a big fat fail. Brakes are dangerous & there are more holes than swiss cheese. With no money now, I've decided that I'm

A- Scrapping the car, get £60-90
B- Selling for Spares, no idea what I'd get
C- taking a sledge hammer to the bastard thing & save the hastle of trying to sell her
D- Wait until I can get more money to pay some sweaty bloke to weld her up

I don't have a welder. Besides, I need a car to take to the Birmingham NEC in November. So I've started phoning round to see if anyone will take her as exchange

It's now November & Fifi's still rotten, a new sill has been welded on & the old inner wing has been cut out (courtesy of Craig Busby from Oswestry who charges £80 a day). Guess I wont be going to the NEC then, no money at all, I have a grand total of £1.50 in my wallet, my bank account's overdrawn while the student finance lot just ask for endless forms.

For all of you who wish you were young, just don't. Being young's a bastard, no money, no support from parents & of course everything costs more. Not exactly fun is it. I've had to put a sheet over Fifi in the garage, not because it leaks, just because I burst when I see my precious car not doing what she should be doing

Well Fifi was eventually fixed up & MOTed on Christmas eve after spending about £600, happiest man alive. Now I have a question for you folks but first a little backstory.

I joined a model railway club recently & the chairman of the club gave me a few pieces. Two VV carbs (one with auto-choke, the other completely unused) & two P21 radios (one dated Jan '88, the other August '-2, the former digit rubbed off). I would like to use one of the radios in Fifi to give her a stock look inside but I have problems.

1: Are they mono or stereo?
2: how do you install them? The internet doesn't seem to know & the Haynes manual is hopeless
3: Can I do some jiggery-pokery inside to give them MP3 connectivity? Seen it done on a Cortina Resto on Youtube & I'd like to listen to my own music & not risk leaving Fifi with the aerial up for some oik to snap.

Answers would be very much appreciated
