Default What would you rather have?

Im changing my car soon but a bit undecided what to get so thought id ask some opinions. Ive had various cars around 400ish hp and would like something quicker the next level around the 5-600 hp mark. Ive been looking at cosworths as you do but struggling to find any that are any good really, looked at quite a few now. Im also considering evo's and skyline's as these seem to be in better supply and for more sensible money. Got a max budget of around 17k but would ideally like to spend a bit less if i can.
Know a lot of guys on here have owned quick evos and skylines aswell as cossie's obviously so thought it was a good place to ask, cheers

What cars have you had around 400bhp? and what are you going to use it for?

If it's a weekend toy type thing, I'm biased but a 400bhp gtir will beat just about anything of the same power until you get down to kit car weights. It should do mid 11s 1/4mile wise. For less than half your money you should be able to find one with all the bits (forged engine/quaife box/ suspension/brakes etc)
If you want something abit more modern go with the Evo. there's loads of them around so any repairs/tuning should be quite straight forward.

The car will be a toy basically, ive got other cars to use as daily but would like something with a roof and 4 seats incase i every need to take my family along somewhere

I also considered looking at some rwd skyline type stuff mate, they seem not too expensive when they come up for sale but I don't know too much about them...

I'd like to stay ford ideally though

Cheers Paul

That is exactly the reason for this post, you can buy a mega jap car for not a lot of money, with no rust issues (probably) and it will nost likely be more reliable than a cossie and faster everywhere depending on power ect. But do they have the cossie magic?

Don't be so sure about the lack of rust issues!

Evos especially! Later ones not so much, but 6 and before are renowned for rotting like hell underneath!

I just picked up an immaculate 4 though, but it's an area to watch out for.

Steve, the RS, or GT models have their magic, great cars. As for rot, yes they do suffer BUT not all of them, if you go to view one, or any car for that matter get it up in the air

Thanks for the replys, staffi i was looking at that 6 earlier on the mlr, also their is an 8 built by mad for a couple of grand more. Which do you rate as being best and why? Know you have owned both evo 6's and 8's.

Hi Steve,

For me it would be the 6 every time , they're kinda the Cossie of the Evos if that makes sense? Raw, best looking of the bunch ( again my opinion) have the stronger box than the 6 speed 8. But on the flip side, the 8 is newer obviously more refined too, really it's personal choice for you Steve, but if i had your budget at very least I'd be arranging a viewing of the 6, what have you to lose??

Yes i spose i ought to go and have a look at one really to make my own mind up, will have to give the bloke a call. Do the feel quick at that power level like a cossie does? Ive been in a 450hp evo 8 and wasnt blown away really, where as i was very impressed by a 500hp 2wd saff, even if it was a laggy old bugger lol. I know theres trans loss and weight fo factor in but still a huge difference between them. Noticed that evo 6 has done 18k odd miles, is that a lot for a very high for a high spec evo? For example i know the life expectancy of a cossie at that power would probably only be 30k miles. Sorry for all the questions but i know youve owned all the cars im on about

Ring mark and get his opinion on the car and ask how much a freshen up would cost

Thats one of Marks favourite cars that he has modded I remember it very well. If i was a lot younger & looking for a very fast street car that would be the one for me. Believe me its as special as a 500bhp Cossie in fact more special than any Cossie as a street car.

If you want one out of the box an RS4 is unbeatable .

The Evo engines are very reliable and I would expect that to do closer to 50 than 30k before a freshen up.
Both of the cars I have biult that are up for sale are very good cars.

r33 gtr without doubt, 2 door coupe but seats 4 very comfortably, or r32 gtr just a little less room inside.
600 hp peace of piss, excellent gearboxes/diffs, engines are good aswell if looked after and tuned correctly just a little lacking in torque, 500lb, 600hp easy enough to achieve though, and potential for a lot more.

in that price range it would be an r33 gtr for me no question.

It'd be a big spec R32 GTR for me, or if you can find one, a well built 350-400bhp Pulsar GTi-R. Absolute weapons.
