Brake upgrade reccomends plz
After doing the track day at the national day yesterday I am happy at the moment with the power
but realised the stopping power is not really up to it
I have 17 " 7 spokes on at the moment but going to look at getting some rims & tyres just for the track as I have made a mess of one of the 7 spokes after having a run in the gravel
So looking for recommends on brake upgrades and rims and tyres but not wanting to spend thousands.

It's a wheel with very poor internal dimensions when trying to get bigger brakes inside, 2wd stands a better chance as the TRE position allows the disc to inset whereas the 4x4 requires a flat bell. Maybe run a big disc kit with your existing caliper??

Why not use ST170 300mm discs with Mk3 Mondeo calipers ?
You will probably have to use washers to space the caliper centrally on the disc, but they should fit under your wheels easily enough

Can the Focus RS calipers be used with this as well??
Would like to have larger calipers to match bigger discs, but car is only stage 1, so not big BHP.
And as OP says don't want to spend thousands as will have to do the 3 Door next afterwards

The ST170 discs do not fit, they foul the TRE as the offset is too big. The discs on the 4x4 need to be almost flat to not hit the TRE. As a result the calipers need to be quite far outward. This means that multiple pot calipers will not fit unless the wheels give a huge amount of clearance.
You can measure the clearance from the disc surface to the inside of the wheel spokes. For multiple piston calipers you will need at least 5.5 to 6 cm clearance.
Last year I looked into this a lot. What might be an option is using Peugeot 307 discs. They are 302 mm in diameter and 26 mm thick (standard disc is 24 mm). They PCD of the Peugeot disc is also 4x108, but the centre bore is slightly bigger. The total disc height is 34 mm compared to the standard 35.5 mm, so at least the disc will fit on the hub. The only 'problems' could be the centre bore being too big and the disc being too thick. But I think it would be doable to use these discs.

Can get a set of wheels on eBay , as long as straight doesn't really matter about the looks if cheap enough .
Some people fit frs Brembos , reyland do a bigger kit or capris port I think do a kit with Brembos ( eBay again )

Cosworth 4x4 hubs are indeed different. You can easily tell since the wheels on an XR sit much more outwards than on a Cosworth. For instance Escos wheels fit a Cosworth 4x4 fine, but on an XR4x4 they stick out a lot.
